"But the Sith are another matter entirely. Even if the Empire falls, the followers of the dark side will continue to exist in hiding. That is why I have devoted myself to studying the Sith. I am determined to find a way to cleanse the galaxy of their corrupting influence, putting an end to the eternal struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force."
"As Padawans, we are forced to spend a great deal of time in the Jedi Archives. While some of my fellow pupils find this tedious, I find it to be absolutely fascinating."
AForce-sensitiveKel Dor, Gnost-Dural wastrained by theJedi Order in the ways ofthe Force from an early age, studying at theCoruscantJedi Temple while aPadawan. During his training as aConsular, at the advice ofJedi MasterShol Bestros, the senior Padawan began to keep ajournal as a means to record his thoughts and experiences which could later serve as a personal reference as well as material for theTemple Archives. As Gnost-Dural began exploring the early histories of the Jedi Order, he uncovered forgotten records ofTython, theForce Wars, and theInfinite Empire. These discoveries would prove vital to the Order in the following decades. Continuing down the path of ahistorian, Gnost-Dural constructed his owngreen-bladedlightsaber as part of his training.[1]
Great Galactic War[]
"This is my first journal entry in several weeks, because we have been very busy since I was transferred to serve with the Republic fleet."
Four years after beginning his journal, theJedi High Council bestowed upon Gnost-Dural the title ofJedi Knight. During theceremony, the Kel Dor swore to uphold theJedi Code and defend theGalactic Republic as part of his duty to the Order and the Force. It was upon this day that news broke on Coruscant of a bloody assault on theTingel Arm; history would later remember this attack as the first appearance of theresurgent Sith Empire, last seen during theGreat Hyperspace War nearly two millennia prior.[1]
Dispatched along with hundreds of other able-bodied Knights to theMinos Cluster, Gnost-Dural and his compatriots hoped to end theSith offensive there quickly and decisively. As the Sith met the Jedi in battle, the conflict continued to drag out. Digging in on the planetEliad for several months, Gnost-Dural had fought manySith troopers in the initial weeks, but only once had an encounter with an actual lightsaber-wielding Sith. Despite the Jedi's initial concern at confronting the dark sider, he quickly realized that overconfidence was the Sith warrior's downfall and defeated him. Collecting the slain Sith's weapon, Gnost-Dural hoped to one day be able to return to the Temple Archives on Coruscant to enter it into the collection and studying it.[1]

In the following weeks Gnost-Dural was transferred to the Republic Fleet where he was placed under the command ofAdmiralGreik andconfronted and defeated the Imperial Battle Group atBothawui. Despite this victory, the planet was eventually attacked asecond time, resulting in the loss of MasterBelth Allusis.[1]
After years of fighting on the front lines of what was now known as theGreat Galactic War, Gnost-Dural's petitions to the High Council were finally answered and he returned to Coruscant and the Temple Archives to conduct research on the origins of the Sith. During his research, Gnost-Dural compiled areport to the Council detailing an historical account of the Sith Empire and his belief that the long-thought deadSith LordNaga Sadow was indeed theSith Emperor leading the war effort against the Republic and the Jedi.[1]
"The Jedi Council requests I perform a daunting task….to revise the Order's historical records in light of new revelations about the formation of the Sith Empire. Specifically, I'm to trace the conflict between the Empire and the Republic, the Sith and the Jedi, to uncover the roots of the struggle which now plagues us."
Gnost-Dural dueling his former apprenticeDarth Karrid
Eventually, Gnost-Dural became aJedi Master and thekeeper of theJedi Archives. In the years following theTreaty of Coruscant, theJedi High Council tasked him with creating a new timeline of the event. His research during this time unearthed several previously unknown factors about the war and served as the basis for a new Jedi Library.[1]
In3640 BBY, Gnost-Dural was assisted by intelligence agentTheron Shan to find and destroy theAscendant Spear. The pair infiltrated the facility and Dural, giving time for Shan to sabotage the station, confronted his former apprentice turned darkKana Terrid, now Darth Karrid. Dural dueled and killed her apprentices, but was captured in turn and interrogated by Karrid. Dural tricked her into going toDuros, where she met her demise in the ensuing battle.
Jedi colony[]
Gnost-Dural on Ossus
During theEternal Empire conquest, Gnost-Dural led thebattle for theswamp planetMimban. AlongsideTau Idair, they fought in a lengthy campaign against theEternal Empire and the pair were the only survivors. Following the conflict, with Jedi numbers thinned and Grand Master Satele Shan in hiding, Dural—as one of the remaining Jedi High Council members—took many Jedi and civilian volunteers with him to establish a hiddencolony onOssus.[4] He and Idair recruited others to their colony, including thedoctorArchiban Frodrick Kimble and Jedi KnightNadia Grell.[6]
In3628 BBY, the colony was discovered by Imperials and Master Gnost-Dural led theevacuation efforts with Doctor Kimble and Nadia Grell. He welcomed the arrival and assistance of theEternal Alliance'sCommander, assigning him to his informal apprentice and the colony'ssecurity chief Tau Idair.[7]
"Now then, enough talk. We have a battle to win, don't we. Not to mention I was in a bacta tank the last time Daeruun brewed this tea of his, I want to see what all the fuss is about."
During theMeridian Complex assault, Master Dural recruited as many Jedi as he could to join a ground defense group including someGreen Jedi and later solicited the help of the Commander. Gnost-Dural, the Commander and SithLana Beniko rode aboardGeneral Daeruun's personal ship toCorellia. Master Dural discussed philosophy about the Force with Lana aboard the ship before separating as they went into battle. He later met the Commander,Tau Idair andArn Peralun, urging them to go after Malgus and fight as one. Though Malgus managed to escape, the Republic eventually emerged victorious.[8]
Dantooine[]

When the Commander,Arn Peralun, andAryn Leneer returned from their mission to the oldDantooineJedi Enclave, where they investigated the whereabouts ofDarth Malgus, Gnost-Dural convened a meeting with who he considered the Order's most important representatives to discuss the Order's next moves in rebuilding its numbers. Jedi chosen by Master Gnost-Dural to attend the meeting includedSal-Deron, Tau Idair andVinyor Tesh, as well as the Dantooine mission party. Though Tesh believed that it was inappropriate for Leneer to attend the meeting, given that she was no longer a member of the Order, Peralun backed Leneer's presence and Gnost-Dural concurred.[9]
Personality and traits[]
Master Gnost-Dural was ahistorian above all else and strived to record galactic history and the feats of important individuals. He kept journals for this task and mentioned to the Eternal Alliance's leader that he intended to create chapter just for the galactic hero's adventures.[7]
Gnost-Dural’s deep study of history shaped his understanding, leading him to view the endless struggle between light and dark is not a battle that can be won , but as an intrinsic part of the Force itself—a balance woven into the fabric of existence. Though he remained hopeful for a future of peace, his knowledge of the past led him to accept that conflict, in some form, would always endure.[1]
Master Dural created the colony on Ossus to preserve the Jedi and safeguard their teachings, isolated fromthe galaxy. He was quick to evacuate it, during the Imperial invasion, in order to maintain that same goal.[7]
Unlike most Jedi, Gnost seemed open to entertain the thought of other ideas, as shown with his conversation withLana Beniko where he recognized that the Sith's pursuit of power wasn't necessarily tied to usurping others.[8]
Powers and abilities[]
Gnost-Dural usedtelekinesis andForce speed. He was a master of several forms of lightsaber combat includingSoresu,Djem So, andJuyo. In combat, he wielded a single-bladed green Jedi lightsaber.
Behind the scenes[]
"To satisfy my own curiosity, I've been searching the Jedi Archives for any further information relating to the ancient world of Tython and have discovered more details about what occurred there. As the Tythonian scholars grew in understanding of the Force and became more proficient in its manipulations, a controversy developed among them..."
Gnost-Dural was voiced byLance Henriksen. Gnost-Dural was one of the main characters inThe Old Republic: Annihilation. Though a major character in elements of the material published alongsideThe Old Republic, he neither appeared in nor was mentioned in the game until he received offhand mentions in theShadow of Revan andKnights of the Eternal Throne expansions. He was originally set to appear in the early version ofStar Wars: The Old Republic's first expansion, which would have included the planet Ziost and a storyline for the Sith Warrior class involving the Jedi Master. He eventually appeared in update 5.10 Jedi Under Siege and was voiced byFred Tatasciore.[10]
Gnost-Dural was set to be mentioned in the short storyQuite A Story To Tell, set after the events of theStar Wars: The Old Republic: Onslaught,[11] but his name was later removed and replaced by a mention of Sal-Deron.[12] AuthorCaitlin Sullivan Kelly later clarified that it was removed after it was brought up that Gnost-Dural could be dead for Imperial characters after the events ofJedi Under Siege, and they did not want to implicate that some choices were more canon than others.[13]
