Purpose

TheGX-8 water vaporator, also known as theGX-8 moisture vaporator or theGX-8 condenser unit, was a model ofmoisture vaporator manufactured byPretormin Environmental Corporation. GX-8s were commonly used formoisture farming including on theplanetsTatooine andLah'mu.

Description[]

The GX-8moisture vaporator was a device manufactured byPretormin Environmental Corporation[1] to condense and filterwater vapor from theair. The device then turned this moisture into liquid water, which made the vaporators essential inplanets where natural-occurring water was undrinkable[4] or absent. When optimally positioned at 250meters from one another, each device could collect 1.5liters (1.5 quarts) of water from the air perday, even when the relative humidity was only 1.5 percent.[2] They could further be combined with a storage hopper where the chemicals were condensed even further to fill other farming needs.[4]

History[]

The GX-8 was commonly used on thedesertplanet ofTatooine,[2] where many units were joined together over a vast area to create amoisture farm.[5] GX-8 condensers were also used byGalen Erso and hisfamily during their self-imposed exile onLah'mu to collect drinkable water, as the planet's mineral content affected its hydrosphere and made groundwater unpleasant to drink.[4]
