"This is what happens when you mess with the Freemakers!"
―Rowan Freemaker[1]

TheFreemakers were a family ofscavengers during theImperial Era. They consisted ofKordi Freemaker and her brothersZander andRowan. They had a servantB1-series battle droid,R0-GR ("Roger"), who considered himself both a Freemaker and adroid.

The Freemakers operated a ship-repair business called theFreemaker Salvage and Repair at aspace station calledthe Wheel in theAbrion system. The Freemakers owned a transport ship called theStarScavenger along with severalZ-wings, starfighters, a submarine called theBubbly Subbly, and a smallscavenger vessel. After Rowan was drawn into a quest to find the pieces of theKyber Saber, the Freemakers drew the attention of theSith acolyteNaare, theGalactic Empire, and theHuttcrime lordGraballa. After destroying the Kyber Saber, the Freemakers joined theRebel Alliance.

History[]

Background[]

The Freemakers were a family of scavengers who lived during the time of theGalactic Civil War. They consisted of thehuman siblingsZander, his younger sisterKordi, and their younger brotherRowan Freemaker. They had a servantB1-series battle droidRoger, who served as a butler and a buddy to Rowan. The Freemakers owned agarage atthe Wheel (rented from an alien landlord), aspace station in theAbrion system. They made their living salvaging junk and selling/ fixingstarships. They owned a starship called theStarScavenger which they used to salvage wreckage after battles between theGalactic Empire and theRebel Alliance.[1]

A turning point[]

Short on funds, the Freemakers traveled to the jungle planet ofNal Kapok to salvage spare parts from wreckedClone Wars vehicles. There, Rowan discovered he wasForce-sensitive when he could sense the hilt of theKyber Saber. Rowan and Roger soon encountered theGreat Jedi Purge survivorNaare, who convinced Rowan to help her in the quest to find the pieces of the Kyber Saber, an ancient weapon that had been crafted from pureKyber crystal by theJedi MasterBaird Kantoo. Naare offered to train him in the ways ofthe Force as aJedi. After saving Zander and Kordi fromstormtroopers, Naare won the trust of the Freemakers. In secret, she was aSithagent who was working forEmperorPalpatine andDarth Vader, the former wanting to harness the Kyber Saber's powers for himself.[1]

Under Naare's guidance, Rowan trained as the Jedi. Kordi was concerned that Naare's quest would endanger her younger brother and quarrelled with Naare. While the adults were arguing, Rowan sensed the second Kyber crystal in theBelgaroth asteroid field. Traveling with Roger aboard theStarScavenger, they managed to find the crystal. However, Rowan was mistaken as a bounty hunter by theIktotchiBaash andRaam who brought him to theHuttcrime lordGraballa. Graballa took Rowan and Roger captive and attempted to use Rowan to lead him to the Kyber Saber crystals. He wanted to use the crystals to bankroll a beach resort and buffet. Rowan and Roger managed to escape with the help of Naare, Zander, and Kordi.[6]

Later, the Freemakers received a job from fellow Wheel residentWick Cooper to service his vintageN-1 starfighter. Knowing Zander's poor impulse control, Kordi instructed Rowan and Roger to hide the starfighter from him. Despite their best efforts, Zander discovered the starfighter and took it for an unauthorized journey ride. Zander eventually stumbled into a dogfight between Imperial and Rebel starfighters and was captured by theImperial Star destroyerVendetta. With the reluctant help of Naare, Kordi and Rowan mounted a rescue mission. During the mission, they encountered Darth Vader himself but managed to escape with Zander and the N-1 fighter. However, the starfighter was badly damaged and the Freemakers earned the wrath of Cooper.[7]

Zander in trouble Joyride

Kordi and Rowan discover that Zander is in trouble

Chasing the money[]

After an unsuccessful Jedi training session with Naare, Rowan and Zander ventured into theLower Ring to watch apodracing match. Short oncredits, Rowan accepted a job from the rebelsLando Calrissian andChewbacca to obtain a "lost treasure" fromCloud City, which was under Imperial occupation. Despite Kordi's instructions to Roger not to tell anyone, the droid accidentally exposed their whereabouts to Naare. During the course of their quest, the Freemakers ran into trouble with the bounty hunters Dengar, Baash, and Raam, who were after Rowan because Graballa believed the boy could lead them to the Kyber Saber crystals. Following a struggle, the Freemakers and Naare managed to rescue Rowan and restore Cloud City to its normal floating position. After returning to the Wheel, they discovered that Lando's "lost treasure" was his cape. Lando paid them several gold bars.[8]

Low on funds again, Kordi accepted an errand from theTwi'lekcaptainIgnacio Wortan to fetch a piece ofwroshyr wood from theWookiee homeworld ofKashyyyk. For this mission, Rowan learntShyriiwook and Kordi fitted Roger with a translation chip. After a brief misunderstanding, Rowan managed to convince the Wookiee chiefAttiburra to give them the wroshyr wood in return for rescuing his sonTantarra from aTrandoshan fortress. The Empire used the Trandoshans as proxies to subdue the Wookiees. The Freemakers managed to rescue Tantarra but Rowan also embarked on a quest to find the third Kyber Saber. Despite accomplishing their quest and gaining the crystal, Kordi's plans to help pay the Freemakers' debts were ruined when she damaged the wroshyr-wood during a struggle with theImperial officersDurpin andPlumestriker. As a result, Wortan called off his deal and the Freemakers were left trapped in debt.[9]

Later, the Freemakers came into contact with the Rebel siblingsPrincessLeia Organa andLuke Skywalker, whoseY-wing starfighter had been damaged in a space dogfight. Before they could repair the Y-wing, the Freemakers had to deal with an Imperial manhunt led by the Imperial officerEstoc. While Kordi, Zander, and Leia led Estoc and her stormtroopers on a hide and seek race, Rowan, Roger, and Luke traveled toFelucia after Roger accidentally activated the ship'shyperdrive. On Felucia, Luke taught Rowan to let the Force flow through him naturally. Rowan used his Force powers to distract anacklay that had stolen theStarScavenger's hyperdrive motivator. Meanwhile, Kordi and Zander managed to trick the Imperials into thinking they had killed Leia and Luke by sending out their Y-wing as a decoy. Having befriended the rebels, the Freemakers allowed them to buy aZ-wing at a discounted rate.[10]

Rising danger[]

After breaking out from their Cloud City prison, Dengar and his associates returned to Graballa and informed him about Rowan Freemaker. Graballa then used thepodracerpilotBen Quadinaros to lure the Freemakers into a trap atMos Espa onTatooine. The Freemakers managed to elude Graballa and his henchmen by participating in the29th Annual Bricklayers' Classic race. The Freemakers won the race but were forced to flee into theDune Sea. They managed to hold out long enough at an abandonedsandcrawler until Naare arrived on herEclipse Fighter to rescue them. While hiding in theEclipse Fighter, Rowan discovered herSith lightsaber and ahologram message from Palpatine himself indicating that she was a Sith agent.[11]

After learning about Naare's deception, Rowan and the Freemakers managed to escape the Freemaker Garage and fled toTakodana. After damaging thepirateHondo Ohnaka's starship, the Freemakers agreed to carry out an errand to fetch three golden orbs from theThird moon of Takodana. The Freemakers quickly discovered that the golden orbs werevaractyl eggs. Instead of giving into thedark side, Rowan used thelight side to communicate with the varactyls. The Freemakers refused to steal the eggs and confronted Hondo with the help ofMaz Kanata. Impressed by the Freemakers, Maz gave them a quantum regulator. She also gave Rowan the fourth Kyber Saber crystal. Meanwhile, Naare joined forces with Graballa to hunt down the Freemakers.[12]

Before the Freemakers could leave Takodana, Naare arrived with Graballa's warshipRancor's Fist and stole the fourth Kyber Saber crystal. Undaunted, the Freemakers traveled to the ocean world ofNingoth where they convinced anopee sea killer to trade the fifth kyber crystal for a light bulb. Despite their efforts, Naare stole the fifth crystal. She also had the first three crystals in her possession. The Freemakers then traveled toNaboo where they infiltrated theEmperor Palpatine Museum and stole the sixth crystal from the lateQueenPadmé Amidala's royal gown. However, Naare and Dengar turned up and managed to obtain that crystal as well following a fierce skirmish that destroyed the Museum. After escaping, the Freemakers discovered that Naare had been tracking them down using Roger'stransmission pack.[13]

Following Maz Kanata's advice, the Freemakers decided to seek out the enigmaticMaker of Zoh, who lived on the junkyard planet ofZoh. There, they discovered that the Maker was none other than the formerSithclone Jek-14. Jek was the leader of a community ofdroids that including the hostileN-3RO, who feared that the Freemakers would corrupt the Maker. Rowan managed to convince Jek to train him in the ways of the Force. Meanwhile, N-3RO rallied the droids against the visitors and tried to turn Roger against his human masters. N-3R0 then attacked the Freemakers and Jek and managed to capture them. Before he could execute them, Roger intervened and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Freemakers. Roger then used his transmission pack to summon Naare and Graballa to Zoh. While Naare fought Jek-14, the Freemakers fled aboard theStarScavenger.[14]

Freemakers Return

The Freemakers join the Rebel Alliance

Struggle for the Kyber Saber[]

The Freemakers then traveled to the icy planet ofHoth, the location of the last Kyber Saber crystal. They were pursued all the way by Naare and Graballa but managed to retrieve the crystal from a deep cave. With theStarScavenger frozen beneath an icy lake, the Freemakers sought shelter at the abandoned rebelEcho Base. The disgraced Imperial officersDurpin andPlumestriker alerted Naare and Graballa to their presence. The Freemakers used a cobbled-upAT-AT walker and asnowspeeder to fight Naare and Graballa's forces but were overwhelmed by the Sith's powers. Rowan then tricked Naare by offering an ice crystal in place of the real Kyber Saber. The Freemakers then fled aboard theStarScavenger. In an attempt to protect his siblings, Rowan and Roger left in theMini Scavenger with the last crystal.[15]

On an uncharted world, Rowan trained in Jedi lightsaber techniques using the memories stored in Roger's memory banks. Unable to find Rowan, Zander and Kordi returned to the Wheel only to run into Naare and Graballa. Naare tortured Zander and Kordi by destroying several of their possessions in an effort to lure Rowan out of hiding. Upon returning to the Freemaker Garage, Rowan engaged Naare in a lightsaber battle. The Freemakers also fought against Graballa and his henchmen. Despite improving his lightsaber and Force powers, Naare discovered that Roger knew the location of the last crystal and stole the droid's head. After trouncing Graballa's henchmen and the Freemakers, Naare departed aboard theEclipse Fighter. Despite this setback, Rowan realized that he was Freemaker foremost and came up with a plan to stop Naare.[16]

Rowan's plan to stop Naare involved impersonating Emperor Palpatine and tricking Naare into handing the Kyber Saber to him. The Freemakers traveled to the galactic capitalCoruscant and managed to infiltrate theImperial Palace. Meanwhile, Naare recovered the last Kyber Saber crystal and managed to reforged the weapon. Overcome by delusions of grandeur, Naare then rebelled against the Emperor and attacked Coruscant. Rowan confronted Naare and managed to steal the Kyber Saber from her. However, he overcame Palpatine's temptation to kill her. Meanwhile, Zander and Kordi recovered Roger's head and then rescued several civilians. They then fled offworld and destroyed the Kyber Saber by plunging it into thevolcanic depths ofSullust. Unable to return to the Wheel due to an Imperial bounty posted on Rowan's head, the Freemakers decided to travel as a family through space. They were then invited byAdmiralAckbar to join the Rebel Alliance, which they accepted.[17]

Joining the Rebel Alliance[]

After being contacted by Admiral Ackbar, the Freemakers boarded theMC80AHome One Type Heavy Star CruiserHome One, which served asAdmiralAckbar's flagship. After exchanging pleasantries, Kordi volunteered the Freemakers' services in helping the Rebel Alliance to procure a rare Type A vector coil forLieutenantValeria'sU-wing. Under Kordi's leadership, the Freemakers traveled through several worlds includingBespin,Kashyyyk, andTatooine bartering various objects until they obtained a Type A vector coil from a band ofJawas onTatooine. While on Tatooine, Rowan, Roger, and Zander were caught in the tentacles of asarlacc. After returning to theHome One, a grateful Admiral Ackbar gave the Freemakers a permanent job servicing the Alliance'sstarfighters.[18]

Later, Roger attempted to befriend several rebel droids aboard theHome One including theC1-series astromech droidChopper. Roger served the droids mechanical oil but the inflammable liquid caused an explosion. This incensed the other droids who beat Roger with one of his own arms. Attempting to repair relations, Roger then "borrowed" several starship and mechanical parts fromHome One'shangar to build an improvised buffer. Roger's project coincided with an Imperial Star Destroyer's attack on theHome One. Roger accidentally caused aB-wing starfighter to explode, preventing the rebels from deploying more reinforcements. While testing the buffer, Roger accidentally catapulted himself into space. He crashed into the Star Destroyer'sdeflector shield generator. This allowed theHome One to destroy the Imperial warship with its firepower. Due to services, Roger was awarded a medal by Admiral Ackbar.[19]

Prior toBlue Squadron'splanned attack onStrike Station Aurek, the Freemakers managed to finish servicing the squadron's fighters. While Rowan was using a stack of containers to eavesdrop on Lieutenant Valeria's briefing, Roger accidentally toppled the containers, causing a domino effect that damaged the starfighters. While Kordi and Zander distracted Blue Squadron and Valeria, Rowan and Roger rebuilt the starfighters with the former using his Force powers. Roger accidentally built himself into theastromech socket of Valeria'sY-wing. As a result, he and Rowan were forced to ride along with Lieutenant Valeria for the strike mission. During the battle, Rowan managed to drop theproton bomb which destroyed the Imperial battle station. After returning, Rowan and Roger sneaked out of Valeria's Y-wing. Valeria was unaware of the role the Freemakers had played and thanked her co-pilot andastromech droid, who had been left behind.[20]

Despite being turned down by Lieutenant Valeria for a dogfight with Imperial TIE fighters, Zander refused to give up. With the encouragement of his siblings, Zander retrofitted hisBlazemaker Mark II with severallaser cannons including amagma cannon. Using his heavy armament, Zander helped turned the tide of the dogfight in the rebels' favor. However, Zander's Blazemaker Mark II exploded since it was heavily overloaded with weapons. Zander survived and admitted he had gone too far.[21]

Later, the Freemakers volunteered to deliver a fuel intermixer to the rebel agentsLando Calrissian andChewbacca, who were trapped by an Imperial blockade. As part of the plan, the Freemakers allowed their shipStarScavenger to be boarded by an ImperialGozanti-class cruiser commanded byDurpin andPlumestriker. The Freemakers tried to fool the Imperials by claiming they hadGamorrean flu. While Durpin believed them, Plumestriker realized they were deceiving him and had them imprisoned in the brig. Rowan then used his Force powers to summon Roger out of the cargo box and reassemble him. Roger then used one of his legs to knock out the stormtrooper sentries and free his family. The Freemakers then escaped in theStarScavenger and managed to rendezvous with Calrissian and Chewbacca. Despite delivering the fuel intermixer to theMillennium Falcon, their victory was soured by the fact that Roger had left one of his legs behind.[22]

Pursued by M-OC[]

The Freemakers later helped the Alliance Fleet to flee into hyperspace during an Imperial attack by servicing the starfighters. Despite their efforts, Rowan was displeased that his services were not needed. Kordi reassured him that he was a morale booster. Since the Alliance fleet needed more spareparts, the Freemakers decided to undertake asalvage run to the planetTibalt, which had seen arecent battle. At the request ofGeneralHera Syndulla, Rowan met with theMon Calamari starship builderQuarrie and convinced him to accompany them after learning that Quarrie wanted to build a ship that could turn the tide of theGalactic Civil War.[23]

Meanwhile, the Emperor dispatched thehunter droidM-OC (which is a great reference for all major members of the Lego community) to hunt down the fugitive Rowan. M-OC followed the Freemakers to Tibalt and kidnapped Rowan. Before he could leave in his starshipTracker I, the Freemakers and Quarrie gave chase in theStarScavenger. Rowan managed to escape back to theStarScavenger by using his lightsaber to break his restraints. However, M-OC refused to give up the hunt and shot down theStarScavenger. M-OC fought Rowan in a duel and gained the upper hand with his gadgets. However, Kordi and Quarrie caused a wrecked starship to crash into M-OC and his ship. The Freemakers fled aboard theStarScavenger and returned toHome One. There, Quarrie recruited Rowan as his new apprentice. Rowan also experienced aForce vision of himself building theArrowhead, a starship powered by aKyber Saber. Meanwhile, M-OC survived the skirmish and informed the Emperor that the Freemakers had joined the Rebellion.[23]

Building theArrowhead[]

Journey to Alistan Nor[]

After being unable to explain his vision of theArrowhead to Quarrie, Rowan traveled with Quarrie and Roger to the ancientForce Builders'city ofAlistan Nor to seek inspiration. Without obtaining Kordi and Zander's permission, Rowan borrowed theStarScavenger and departed with Quarrie and Roger on theirerrant mission. Kordi and Zander were too preoccupied with their work for the Rebel Alliance to notice Rowan's absence until they discovered he had borrowed theStarScavenger. Meanwhile, Rowan, Roger, and Quarrie managed to reach theTower of Alistan Nor where Rowan experienced another Force vision of theArrowhead. The three were attacked by M-OC but managed to escape back to theHome One. After returning, Rowan reconciled with his older siblings and built a model of theArrowhead. The Freemakers then embarked on aquest to build theArrowhead.[24]

Auction on Mygeeto[]

Embarking on their quest, the Freemakers decided to obtain a pair ofembersteel blades for theArrowhead. After learning that the Empire wasauctioning aTheta-class H-2 executive star shuttle with embersteel wings onMygeeto, Kordi convinced the Alliance leadership to loan them 75,000credits to purchase the ship. Theirmission was complicated by Zander's impulsiveness and the presence of Graballa, whose minionsRaam andBaash accidentally bidded for the shuttle. While disguised asPrincess "Alo Kortessi," Kordi was kidnapped by Graballa, who wanted to ransom her. Kordi managed to use her persuasive skills to free herself. Following a brief skirmish with Dengar, the Freemakers escaped with theTheta shuttle and its embersteel wings.[25]

Detour to Taul[]

The Freemakers later undertook amission to extract the Alliance agentBren Derlin, whoseescape pod was in a junk field near the acidic planetTaul. Rowan also learned from Quarrie that theArrowhead needed aproton suspension housing to hold its largekyber crystal in place. The only ship big enough to house one was aCorellian Defender. Rowan convinced his siblings to first travel to Takodana to seek Maz Kanata's help. The Freemakers instead encountered Hondo Ohnaka, who convinced them that he knew where to find a Corellian Defender. The Freemakers travel to Taul. After enduring much danger, they managed to obtain the proton suspension housing. However, Hondo stole theStarScavenger. The Freemakers were then attacked by M-OC but managed to fight him off long enough for Roger to overpower Hondo and rescue them. After rescuing Bren, the Freemakers handed Hondo over to his nemesis, the bounty hunterAwan Zek.[26]

Adventures on the Wheel[]

Seeking an energy matrix activator for theArrowhead, the Freemakers traveled to their former home aboard the Wheel. While Roger stayed in theLower Ring to slice into the guidance systems and guide them, the siblings discovered that their former garage had been transformed byWick Cooper into acantina. The Freemakers planned to break in at night but were captured by Graballa and his bounty hunters Dengar,Bossk,IG-88,4-LOM, andZuckuss, who wanted to get an Imperial bounty on Rowan. Roger was attacked by a group ofRanats, who wanted to steal hisdatapad.[27]

The Freemakers managed to escape after Kordi instigated a fight between the organic and droid bounty hunters. Following a speeder bike chase, the Freemakers managed to steal the energy matrix activator while Graballa was dealing with Lord Vader. The Freemakers tried to return to their ship on aturbolift but Lord Vader requisitioned it. Meanwhile, Roger escaped the Ranats and used a trapdoor to help the Freemakers escape back to the Rebel Alliance.[27]

Mission to Qalydon[]

Seeking a giant kyber crystal, the Freemakerstraveled to the planetQalydon, which was home to aLurmen village. The Lurmen owned kyber crystal necklaces which they used to worship the Force. They befriended the locals includingChiefBiz, his wifeElan, and their daughterMaynar. However, the village was raided by Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker, who stole their kyber crystals.[28]

While Roger stayed behind to help the villagers rebuild their village, the Freemakers undertook a mission to recover the crystals. While Zander and Kordi posed as Imperial technicians, Rowan and Maynar found the crystals. Their mission was complicated by the arrival of the Imperial hunter droid M-OC. Though Durpin and Plumestriker managed to escape with the crystals on theirGozanti-class cruiser, Rowan managed to track down the crystals with the Force and recover them. The Freemakers then returned the crystals to the Lurmen.[28]

Building the kyber crystal[]

After escaping M-OC, the Freemakerstraveled to anuncharted planet twelveparsecs pastTerminus. This planet was where Jedi MasterBaird Kantoo had built theKyber Saber eons ago. Following a crash-landing, Zander and Roger stayed behind to repair theStarScavenger but were harried bymynocks. Zander managed to repair the ship by getting Roger to distract the mynocks with ajetpack.[29]

Meanwhile, Rowan and Kordi explored anearby Jedi Temple. After a series of trials which involved building objects to go deeper into the temple, Rowan encountered aholocron of Master Kantoo which told him that he had to build the kyber crystal. Rowan used the Force to build a giant kyber crystal. He and Kordi then rejoined the others with the kyber crystal and theStarScavenger's steering vane.[29]

Flying theArrowhead[]

Having obtained all the parts to build theArrowhead, the Freemakers to the rebel fleet only to find it underattack form Imperial forces. Due to the volatile nature of the kyber crystals, Quarrie was unwilling to finish assembling theArrowhead aboard theHome One. Accompanied by Valeria and Quarrie, the Freemakers traveled to the barren planet ofJakku to assemble theArrowhead.[30]

However, the Freemakers encountered a major obstacle when Valeria landed theArrowhead in quick sand, causing it to explode. Another problem emerged when the energy matrix activator fell into the hands of Durpin and Plumestriker, who wanted to capture Rowan in order to regain the Empire's favor. Zander and Roger tried to retake the missing energy matrix activator but were captured by the Imperial officers. While Rowan and Quarrie rebuilt the rest of theArrowhead, Kordi and Valeria managed to recover the activator and rescue Zander and Roger.[30]

Though the Freemakers and Valeria were pursued by Durpin and Plumestriker'sAT-ST walker, Rowan and Quarrie managed to assemble theArrowhead. After Zander used theArrowhead to destroy Durpin and Plumestriker's walker, the Freemakers returned back to the rebel fleet aboard theStarScavenger andArrowhead. Zander and Rowan managed to force the Imperial fleet into a retreat by destroying a Star Destroyer with theArrowhead. For their efforts, Zander was promoted to flightcadet, Kordi became Admiral Ackbar's new quartermaster, and Rowan was promoted to Master Ship Builder.[30]

Triumphs and defeat[]

The Freemakers used theArrowhead to help the Rebel cause byaiding Lieutenant Valeria's rebel and Wookiee forces onKashyyyk against several Imperialwalkers. Kordi was promoted to the Rebel Alliance's Strategy Council and convinced Admiral Ackbar toattack an Imperial fleet docking at a repair station nearAlzoc III. Flying theArrowhead, Zander inflicted considerable damage to several Star Destroyers in tandem with Valeria's Blue Squadron.[31]

Meanwhile, the Emperor ordered Darth Vader and M-OC to hasten their efforts to capture Rowan Freemaker, seeking access to the Kyber Saber and theArrowhead. M-OC lured Rowan into atrap on the planetQalydon. However, M-OC was ambushed by his rival Darth Vader, who captured Rowan and brought him back to the Emperor. Roger, who had accompanied Rowan, managed to fly theStarScavenger back to theHome One and warn Zander and Kordi.[31]

Rescuing Rowan[]

Kordi and Zander tried to convince Admiral Ackbar, General Syndulla and Mon Mothma to let themrescue Rowan Freemaker. However, the Alliance leadership was preoccupied with preparing for theassault on thesecond Death Star. Determined to save their little brother, the Freemakers stole theArrowhead and attacked Imperial forces above Coruscant, inflicting considerable damage on Imperial forces.[32]

Meanwhile, Lord Vader delivered Rowan to the Emperor. While the Emperor was displeased to learn that Rowan had destroyed theKyber Saber, Vader managed to probe Rowan's mind for the location of aplanet rich inkyber crystals for the Empire's second Death Star. The Emperor ordered Rowan's execution, believing that he had outlived his usefulness. However, Rowan was rescued by Kordi and Zander, who had disguised themselves asEmperor's Royal Guards.[32]

While flying theArrowhead, Roger managed to destroy M-OC's shipTracker I. However, M-OC survived the collision and hijacked theArrowhead. He attacked the Freemakers but the four managed to escaped offworld on an "Ugly" that Rowan had built. Seeking to eliminate the Freemakers for good, the Emperor sent M-OC to hunt them down and eliminate them.[32]

Showdown on Shantipole[]

While traveling through theCoruscant system, the Freemakers were pursued by M-OC in theArrowhead. They tried to surrender but M-OC was determined to destroy them. Before M-OC could finish them off, the Freemakers were rescued by Quarrie, who was flying theStarScavenger. The Freemakers and Quarrie then fled into hyperspace but M-OC managed to track them down using anXX-23 S-thread tracker.[33]

At the behest of Quarrie, the Freemakers traveled on theStarScavenger to the stormy planet ofShantipole, which was home to Quarrie'sbase. Though they manage to lose M-OC in the storms, the relentless hunter droid circled Shantipole, determined to hunt down and destroy the Freemakers. After Roger pointed out that M-OC was obsessed with Rowan, Rowan realized that they had to stop M-OC once and for all.[33]

The Freemakers and Quarrie joined forces to attach atractor beam projector to theStarScavenger. The Freemakers and Quarrie then lured M-OC and theArrowhead into Shantipole's stormy upper atmosphere, using the tractor beam projector to drag him down. The two ships were then caught in an electrical storm, which drained their ship's power. Despite losing the tractor beam projector, the Freemakers had a back-up plan that involved Roger dropping Rowan onto theArrowhead's hull.[33]

Rowan attempted to remove the ship's giantkyber crystal but was attacked by M-OC, who engaged him in a lightsaber duel. Rowan managed to remove the crystal from theArrowhead and was picked up by Roger on theMini Scavenger. With theArrowhead's shields removed, Zander rammed theStarScavenger into theArrowhead before escaping with Kordi and Quarrie.[33]

The two ships were destroyed but M-OC survived the explosion. M-OC confronted Rowan but Rowan managed to convince the droid to end his hunt for the Freemakers by claiming that it was pointless and that his programming was flawed. While this worked, M-OC came to believe that the Emperor's plan to destroy the rebels with the second Death Star was flawed. After building a small starship, M-OC departed for the second Death Star. The Freemakers realized that they now had to stop M-OC's mission to safeguard the second Death Star.[33]

Battle of Endor[]

Rowan used his Force powers to rebuild theStarScavenger, incorporating elements of theArrowhead. After escaping Shantipole's stormy atmosphere, the Freemakers traveled to rendezvous with the rebel fleet atSullust only to find that the fleet had already departed forEndor. They attempted to warn Valeria that the Rebel fleet was facing a fully operational second Death Star but their message did not get through due to static.[34]

Seeking a weapon to defeat M-OC, Rowan sensed that theKyber Saber had not been destroyed. With the help of Roger, Rowan managed to use the Force to retrieve the lightsaber. Traveling to theEndor system, the Freemakers used the Kyber Saber to amplify theStarScavenger's new Embersteel Blades and cut through the second Death Star's deflector shield. After crashing into a hangar, the Freemakers and Quarrie fought withstormtroopers but were taken prisoner after a stormtrooper managed to stun Rowan.[34]

Though the Freemakers and Quarrie were captured by the Empire, they were freed by Zander's love interestBecky Smoochenbacher, who had joined the Empire but defected after seeing Zander and his family. After escaping the detention block, the Freemakers learnt from Valeria thatGeneralHan Solo's strike team had disabled theDeath Star's shield generator. Despite the danger, Rowan was still determined to defeat M-OC. His family wanted to come along but Rowan used the Force to shove them and Quarrie into a turbolift.[34]

Rowan traveled down to the second Death Star's reactor core where he engaged M-OC in a duel. Unable to beat M-OC, who was protected by the giant kyber crystal, Rowan used the Force to summon the kyber crystals to him. M-OC then attacked Rowan with all his weapons including rocket launchers, and missiles. M-OC managed to use ahologram to distract Rowan and subdue him. Before he could kill Rowan, the hunter droid was distracted by the sight of the Emperor falling to his death. With M-OC distracted, Rowan plunged the Kyber Saber into M-OC's kyber crystal, creating an explosion that destroyed the hunter droid.[34]

Meanwhile, Zander, Kordi, Roger and Quarrie made their way back to theStarScavenger's hangar. On the way, they encountered three stormtroopers, who pursued them. However, Kordi managed to shake them off by causing them to fall off a bridge into the depths of the Death Star. After boarding their ship, they rescued Rowan before rebel starfighters arrived and destroyed the second Death Star's reactor core, setting off a chain reaction that destroyed the battle station.[34]

Beyond Endor[]

Following theBattle of Endor, the Freemakers joined Quarrie, Lieutenant Valeria and the other rebels in celebrating the defeat of the Galactic Empire atBright Tree Village. While Roger chatted withR2-D2 andC-3PO, Rowan chatted with Luke Skywalker and showed him hisForce Building skills, impressing the Jedi Knight.[34]

Roger also befriended anEwok child who followed him aboard theStarScavenger despite Roger's repeated attempts to tell him to stay behind. Years later, after Roger had joined theResistance, he took it as a lesson of persistence.[35]

Battle of Jakku[]

A year after the events at Endor, the Freemakers participated in theBattle of Jakku on the side of theNew Republic. During the battle, the Freemakers came to the aid of Lieutenant Valeria after herT-47 airspeeder was shot down. After Rowan drove off anAT-AT walker, Rowan rescued Valeria from her stricken craft. While Kordi, Zander and Roger repaired Valeria's speeder, Rowan used the Force to slow down the descent of a crashing Star Destroyer. After repairing Valeria's speeder, the three departed on their shipStarScavenger.[4]

New Republic era[]

Following the Battle of Jakku, Zander fathered a daughter namedMoxie Freemaker while Kordi became a New RepublicSenator based inHosnian Prime. Years later, Roger recounted the adventures of the Freemaker family to Moxie. Kordi would help recruit Moxie into General Leia Organa'sResistance paramilitary group.[4]
