- "Admiral, we really need to do something about Fondor…"
- ―Darth Caedus, toCha Niathal[6]
Fondor was aplanet in theFreeworlds Territory of theTapani sector, famous throughoutthe galaxy for its extensive orbitalshipyards, which were outclassed only by those atCorellia andKuat. TheShipyards were associated with theTechno Union prior to theClone Wars, and were vast enough to construct major flagships, such as theExecutor,Darth Vader'sStar Dreadnought. For many years, its capital city wasFondor City, later succeeded byOridin City.
Description[]
Almost entirely industrialized, Fondor was anecumenopolis surrounded by orbital shipyards anddrydocks. Its surface was almost totally covered with factories, cooling towers, and workers' barracks, as well asmine shafts leading deep into the planet's core and office complexes for the planet's rulingGuild of Starshipwrights.[2]
Fondor had a relatively small population of 5 billion around the time of theGalactic Civil War. Most of the surface factories were autonomous, controlled bydroid brains which oversaw billions oflabor droids.[2]
History[]
Early history[]

Fondor administrator and zero-gravity ship worker
Fondor was located in theFreeworlds Territory of theTapani sector, asector technically part of theColonies, but so old and well-regarded that many considered it a part of theCore Worlds.[7] The nativeFondorians were aNear-Human species with nohair andpurpleblood.[8] The planet was completely industrialized eons ago. Its surface was scabbed with excavations, factories, cooling towers, steam tunnels, and offices, all related to theplanet's central role instarship construction. The planet also housed hectares of laborers' barracks for the dockworkers, many of whose jobs were above them.[5] Fondor was a main market for theBesadiiHutts.[9] TheJedimission to Fondor during theSeparatist Crisis foiled a scheme byGroodo theHutt to destroy the Fondor Shipyards using acounterfeitSun Runnertransport.[10]
In3630 BBY, a small colony ofsleeks was discovered on a remote island of Fondor. These flightlessbirds werehunted to extinction by the locals for the bird's delicious meat centuries ago.[11]
During theClone Wars, Fondor seceded to theConfederacy of Independent Systems, but the populace was generally unsupportive of the Separatist cause, and the planet contributed relatively little to the war effort.[2]
TheExecutor project[]
The contract to build theExecutor came somewhat unexpectedly, asKuat Drive Yards was the manufacturer of theImperial Star Destroyer and later instances of theExecutor-class. The Empire required complete secrecy in the project, closing off all nonmilitary traffic in the system. Though the dockyard bosses were angered by the fact that they could no longer serve their commercial clients, the fact that the project took up the majority of the yard's resources—and the legendary wrath of Vader—kept them in check.[5] Shortly before the Battle of Yavin anuprising was quickly suppressed by imperial forces.[1]
In order to efficiently move ships, the Empire created a classifiedroute linking Fondor with theMid Rim world ofGandeal. TheGandeal-Fondor Hyperlane remained a well kept secret decades after its forging.[9]As an essential manufacturer ofStar Destroyers, albeit unique variants, for theGalactic Empire, the shipyards became a target of theRebel Alliance. In one instance, aprototype Star Dreadnought fitted with a cloaking device underwent construction there.Rogue Squadron penetrated the shipyards in stolen Imperial starfighters and terminated the project, preventing its completion.[12]
Regime change[]

The highly industrialized surface of Fondor
In spite of its security, Fondor was seized by theAlliance of Free Planets very soon after theBattle of Endor, giving the Alliance a key coreward shipyard and base. However, the supply of the raw materials that the shipyards demanded was briefly interrupted when ImperialAdmiralMordur persuadedGuildmasterOrrk to redirectVandelhelm's strategic metal supplies from Fondor to himself—althoughHan Solo soon restored the situation and defeated the Admiral.[13] For decades, Fondor continued to supply theNew Republic withStar Destroyers and othercapital ships.[14]
In26 ABY, the planet also became atarget during theYuuzhan Vong War, though a blast fromCenterpoint Station destroyed a portion of the enemy fleet, saving Fondor at the cost of theHapan war fleet, which was also caught in the blast.[9] Fondor continued to supply theGalactic Alliance with starships in the war. The planet was eventually taken by theYuuzhan Vong, butretaken near the end of the war.[15]
Second Galactic Civil War[]

Fondor
In40 ABY, it became allied withCorellia in theSecond Galactic Civil War, as it had been chafing under GA military restrictions, and officially left the Galactic Alliance.[14] The planet's president at this time wasShas Vadde.[6]Joint Chief of StateDarth Caedus planned to attack the planet in order to set an example for other rebellious worlds. It then became the scene of amassive battle to retake it, with Caedus and his fleet bombardingOridin City and other urban centers.AdmiralCha Niathal established the headquarters of herfaction of the Galactic Alliance on the planet afterwards. When the Second Galactic Civil War ended with the defeat of theConfederation, Fondor rejoined the Galactic Alliance.
In41 ABY, the Imperial Remnant Head of StateGilad Pellaeon was assassinated by the SithTahiri Veila over Fondor, after the former refused to supportDarth Caedus's faction of the Galactic Alliance.[6]
Inhabitants[]
TheNear-HumanFondorians made up 75% of Fondor's population, and were distinguished by their purple blood and lack of body hair. Fondorian society wascaste-organized, with low-caste Fondorians traditionally having only one name. However, they might rise through society by gaining apprenticeships awarded by theFondor Guild of Starshipwrights for generations of family service.[16]
