TheExecutor-class Star Dreadnought, also known as theExecutor-class Super Star Destroyer, officially identified during production as theSuper-class Star Destroyer, and simply as theSuper Star Destroyer class, theSuper Star Destroyer andSuper Class, designed byLira Wessex were some of the largest and most powerfulImperialstarships ever created.[5] Along with other classes of massive Imperialcapital ships,[15] they were also referred to asSuper Star Destroyers,[5] although they were technically classified asStar Dreadnoughts. The most distinguished SuperStar Destroyer was theExecutor, flagship of theDark Lord of the Sith,Darth Vader.[3]

Vessels of theExecutor-class Dreadnought line[3] measured at 19,000meters in length,[2] and utilizing its thirteenExecutor-50.x engines,[1] could reach speeds of 100kilometers per hour. Thesestarships had a crew of 280,784, and could carry 38,000 troops and support staff. TheExecutor-class possessed long rangesensors, and had consumables for 6 years. TheExecutor-class Star Dreadnought possessed anavicomputer, and had a primary hyperdrive of Class 1, with a backup of Class 10.[17] They possessed atitanium-reinforcedhull[2] made ofalusteel, intended to reflect the design of theImperial-class Star Destroyer,[1] and theirbridges haddeflector shields and communication domes.[18] The main bridge also resembles a normal ISD bridge, and the bridge also sticks out. Unlike the ISD, the hull is painted black, with a much more pronounced dagger shape. Most of the ship's top is flat, with the main superstructure being a darker shade of gray and resembling a city. Vessels of theExecutor-class also had at least one ventralhangar bay[3] andescape pods.[12]

TheExecutor-class's bridge was 285 meters wide and contained shield generators, briefing rooms, and escape pods. However, it was relatively exposed, making it vulnerable to enemy attack.[15]

Armament[]

TheExecutor-class Dreadnought boasted an armament of unimaginable firepower,[19] composed of over 5,000 turbolasers,[8] including 750 twin heavy turbolaser batteries, and 1000 turret-mounted twin light turbolaser batteries. TheExecutor-class Dreadnought additionally possessed 125 assaultconcussion missile launchers, 100 twin battleship ion cannons and 250 turret-mountedquad laser cannons.[17]

TheExecutor-class Dreadnought had a complement of over 1,000 starships,[2] including 144TIE Series starfighters, divided into 12squadrons. TheExecutor-class Dreadnought's TIEs were composed ofTIE/ln fighters,TIE/sa bombers andTIE/IN interceptors.[3] TheExecutor-class Dreadnought also possessed 200 assaultshuttles, transport shuttles, and support craft, andY-85 Titan dropships.[20] As well as its space complement, theExecutor-class Dreadnought carried severalAll Terrainwalkers included 24AT-ATs and 50AT-STs, and 2IM-455 modular garrisons[17]

History[]

"Can you imagine what the twenty-two I've saved would add to theChimaera's defenses? Or theFiredrake's, or the newStar Dreadnought class Lord Vader's been pushing for?"

TheExecutor-class Star Dreadnought, also known as theSuper-class Star Destroyer,[4] was manufactured byKuat Drive Yards during thereign of theGalactic Empire.[2] By thetime of theskirmish against the Third Fleet,Darth Vader had been pushing for the class.[21] During its history, at least two prototypes were manufactured, including theStar Dreadnought Assault Prototype and theStar Dreadnought Command Prototype.[22] With the massive amount of resources taken up by theDeath Star project,[14] development of theExecutor-class was held back.[21]

TheAnnihilator served asGrand GeneralCassio Tagge'sflagship[14] before he prepared to move his command to an under-constructionExecutor-class, known simply as theExecutor.[23] Tagge was a fierce critic of the Death Star, pointing out that countless Super Star Destroyers could have been made with the resources thrown into the singlebattle station.[14] Upon seeing theExecutor, Vader's personalassassin droids,0-0-0 andBT-1, debated whether the massive vessel was "trashy," with 0-0-0 admitting he would like anExecutor-class of his own.[23] After Tagge's failings allowed the roguescientistCylo tonearly commandeer theExecutor,Galactic EmperorSheev Palpatine gave command of the vessel and Tagge's fleet to Vader, who executed Tagge shortly after.[24]

According to theRebel Alliance'sintelligence agency, more than a dozenSuper Star Destroyers were made, including theExecutor itself, its sister ship theLusankya, theAnnihilator, theArbitrator, theEclipse, and theRavager. However, the true number remained a subject of debate, as Alliance analysts endeavored to make sense of Imperialpropaganda and see through the black budgets designed to hide the scope of the Palpatine's secret weapons programs.[15] As Vader's flagship, theExecutor saw action at theBattle of Mako-Ta[16] in1 ABY,[25] theBattle of Hoth and theEscape from Cloud City[26] in3 ABY,[27] and thebattle over Jekara during theWar of the Bounty Hunters.[28] It was destroyed at theBattle of Endor in4 ABY.[19]

In the months after the events ofEndor, theNew Republic, the successor government to the Alliance, destroyed five Super Star Destroyers, including theArbitrator which accidentally jumped into a black hole due to erroneous hyperspace coordinates, and captured three more. TheAnnihilator, former flagship of Grand General Cassio Tagge, was captured by pirates and renamedLiberty's Misrule. The only known Super Star Destroyer, and so the only knownExecutor-class, to remain in Imperial hands wasGrand AdmiralRae Sloane's flagshipRavager, which also served as the base forFleet AdmiralGallius Rax.[11] In5 ABY,[29] Sloane discovered evidence that the Emperor's command ship, the Super Star DestroyerEclipse, had not been destroyed but had vanished from the official records.[11]

Following Sloane's disappearance during theattack on Chandrila, Fleet Admiral Rax formally took command of theRavager asCounselor to the Empire. TheRavager then rendezvoused with a large Imperial armada on the barren planet ofJakku for a showdown with the New Republic.[11] TheRavager was lost in thebattle when one of the New Republic'sStarhawk-class battleships pulled it into Jakku's gravity well with its ultra-powerful tractor beam, causing the massive capital ship to crash in the sands of the desert planet.[15]
