Erich S. Datoo[7] was ahumanmalemilitaryofficer who held therank ofcolonel in theFirst Order.[3] In34 ABY,[8] Datoo was in charge of the primary fire control room on the First Order'sStarkiller Basesuperweapon.[3] Under orders fromSupreme LeaderSnoke, he oversaw the weapon as itdestroyed theHosnian system, the location of theNew RepublicGalactic Senate. The weapon then began preparing to fire on theIleenium system, where theResistanceheadquarters was located; however,Resistance forces thenattacked the superweapon. As it became clear the base was going to be destroyed, Datoo was shocked to seeLieutenantRodinon trying to leave the control room, and questioned where he was going, although the latter talked back and bluntly pointed out that they needed to evacuate or else they won't survive, citing that even the base's commander, Hux, had already evacuated. Starkiller Base then exploded,[6] killing Datoo along with it.[2]

Datoo was a methodicalofficer who believed that the destructive power of Starkiller Base should command respect from all members of the First Order. He wore atealFirst Order Armyuniform with acrested command cap and a band on the left arm written inAurebesh that commemorated theImperialWarlordKaplan.[3]

Erich S. Datoo was portrayed byRocky Marshall inStar Wars: Episode VIIThe Force Awakens, which was released in2015. The character was not identified in the film, but was named inStar Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, which was written byPablo Hidalgo and released the same day as the film. The character is also identified by name in the subtitles on the film's home video release.[6] The character's first name was created byAdam Bray for the2019 reference bookUltimate Star Wars, New Edition, who named him afterDel Rey editorErich Schoeneweiss.[9]
