History[]

"There."
"Take us in. It's time to rejoin with those who came before."
―Brendol Hux, and Rae Sloane upon seeing theEclipse[8]

Sometime after theArrth-Eno Mission undertaken by theRebel Alliance during theGalactic Civil War, Rebel AllianceAdmiralGial Ackbar wrote a report toCommander-in-ChiefMon Mothma regarding theExecutor-class Star Dreadnought. In the report, Ackbar mentioned theEclipse, noting that it was rumored to be the flagship of Emperor Palpatine,[2] which turned out to be accurate.[7] At one point during its service, theEclipsebombarded a celestial body along with threeImperial-class Star Destroyers.[10]

It was believed to have been destroyed by afleet ofNew Republic vessels with Ackbar'sflagship,Home One, firing the ship-killing shot[7] by theyear5 ABY.[11] During theBattle of Jakku, after formerGrand AdmiralRae Sloane defeated her former ally,Counselor to the EmpireGallius Rax, she was instructed by Rax before he died to take a replica of theImperialis, find theEclipse and reform the Empire. The New Republic defeated the Empire at the Battle ofJakku, and Sloane, together withCommandantBrendol Hux, his sonArmitage, and a cadre ofchildsoldiers, boarded theImperialis and traveled to theUnknown Regions ofthe galaxy, where they discovered theEclipse. After Brendol spotted theEclipse, Sloane ordered theSentinel piloting theImperialis to bring the ship in and rejoin with the others. Sloane intended to board theEclipse and build anew Empire.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

TheEclipse was first mentioned in thejunior novelization ofStar Wars: Episode VIReturn of the Jedi byTom Angleberger.[12] However, the ship being referred to has since been confirmed to be theExecutor.[13] The ship's image originated inStar Wars Legends, with an unidentifiedExecutor-class Star Dreadnought in the2016 board gameStar Wars Rebellion. It was later confirmed to be Sheev Palpatine's command ship inAftermath: Life Debt.[7] The ship was first canonically pictured in theSuper Star Destroyer Expansion Pack from the miniatures gameStar Wars: Armada.[10]
