Rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra is on the run!Implanted with a proximity bomb, she's forced tostay close to her nemesis, the psychotic droidTriple-Zero, or they will both face an explosivedeath!It's all part of a grand experiment by the evil DoctorCornelius Evazan, who watches from afar as Aphrablunders through the many dangers of theultra-lawful Imperial world Milvayne. Their onlyhope is to reach the one specialist who can safelyremove the bombs before the timer runs out!But with a resurrected Tam Posla on their trail,thanks to his possession by a Force-poweredfungus, things don't look good. And it seems thatanother old frenemy of Aphra's is back from thedead....

Plot summary[]

In the underworld ofMilvayne City, Dr.Chelli Lona Aphra andTriple-Zero are confronted by the reanimated bounty hunterTam Posla and a hostile, newly reassembledBT-1. Their escape is complicated by the sudden arrival of monster huntersWinloss andNokk, who have a score to settle with Aphra. They use the ensuing chaos, as the hunters engage BT-1, to flee, keenly aware of the ticking clock on the bombs implanted within them. Unseen, the sadisticCornelius Evazan monitors the events. He decides to broadcast the chase across the entire city, turning Aphra and Triple-Zero into public fugitives with a bounty on their heads.

The duo is briefly rescued by the scavenger girlVulaada Klam, who arrives on a smog-collectingbloatbarge. During a moment of reflection, Aphra admits to Vulaada her own selfish, survival-at-all-costs nature, revealing her vulnerability as she looks at a hologram of her lost love,Magna Tolvan. The respite is short-lived as the undead Posla and his soldiers corner them. Triple-Zero predictably takes Vulaada hostage, but the plan backfires. Motivated by the city-wide bounty, Vulaada shoots Triple-Zero to free herself, declares her intention to collect the reward, and knocks Aphra unconscious.
