A Delta-7Aethersprite-class light interceptor
Manufactured byKuat Systems Engineering, the Delta-7Aethersprite-class light interceptor was aJedi-usedstarfighter that saw extensive action during thelast years of theGalactic Republic, and was designed specifically with the Jedi in mind. The Delta-7's designers worked with theJedi Order to create a starfighter with fewer internal systems than otherstarships, and focused on making the controls as responsive as possible due to the Jedi'sForce-sensitive capabilities. An elite transport, it could accommodate a singlepilot and an integratedastromech droid, as unlike later starfighter models, the wings were too thin for a full astromech socket. Instead, a modified astromech was hardwired into a socket on the vessel's wing, with its dome remaining intact but its components plugged directly into the ships computer. Thedroid therefore, would play an important part in assisting the pilot with navigation, damage control, and hyperspace travel coordinates.[8]
Unlike most ships inthe galaxy, the Delta-7 Jedi starfighter did not feature a built-inhyperdrive, but instead relied on externalhyperspace transport rings that attached to the starship, allowing it to enter thetrans-dimensional realm. Despite this, the ship could still attain speeds of 1,260 kph inrealspace, and was often painted red, thecolor which represented the diplomatic immunity the Jedi enjoyed.[8]
History[]
Republic service[]
The Delta-7 entered service with the Jedi Order[13] prior to or during32 BBY.[14]Qui-Gon Jinn operateda Delta-7, as did hisPadawanObi-Wan Kenobi.Yoda operatedhis own customized version, and flew it on amission to the Vagadarr system.[13]
Four years later, MasterDepa Billaba flew a Delta-7 as part of Hazard Squadron as escort for a relief convoy heading toBromlarch. She provided interference between the convoy starships and the attackingpirates.[15]
In22 BBY,[14] Kenobi flewhis interceptor on amission to Kamino, during which he discovered the existence of aclonearmy being produced without the approval of theGalactic Senate. Thebounty hunterJango Fett served as thecloning template, and was also a suspect in aplot to assassinate Senator Amidala. TheJedi High Council ordered Kenobi to apprehend Fett and bring him toCoruscant for interrogation. Fett evaded arrest, but Kenobi managed to follow him toGeonosis.[10]

Delta-7s remained in use early in the Clone Wars
Once Fett became aware of Kenobi's presence, the two engaged in a drawn-outdogfight over Geonosis, during which Kenobi jettisoned his starfighter's spare parts canisters to feign his owndeath. Kenobi eventually made his way to the surface of the planet, but was arrested by theConfederacy of Independent Systems.Anakin Skywalker andSenatorPadmé Amidala attempted to stage a rescue, but were also apprehended and sentenced to death in thePetranaki Arena. AJedi assault team deployed to rescue the trio, but were severely depleted and on the verge of defeat when Yoda arrived with theGrand Army of the Republic. The ensuingFirst Battle of Geonosis resulted in the end of theSeparatist Crisis and the beginning of the Clone War.[10]
At least one Delta-7, belonging toJedi MasterPlo Koon at the end of the Clone War[11] in19 BBY,[14] was destroyed in thecapture of Cato Neimoidia during the execution ofOrder 66.[11]
Age of the Empire[]
The earlyAlliance would begin to use rebuilt Delta-7 interceptors for local engagements, along with other aging Clone Wars-era equipment and othersystem patrol craft.[12]
