- "Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data-tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebels' hidden fort—"
- ―Conan Antonio Motti[1]

Adata-tape, alsoinformation tape, was a recording device that could be read by aholoprojector, such as the one standard inR2 units, or acomputer terminal.
History[]
TheJedi Order training shipChu'unthor had many datatapes aboutJedi training. When it crashed in340 BBY,Jedi MasterYoda led a rescue team to the wreck. He left the datatapes and reader discs about theJedi, and prophesied a Jedi to defeat theNightsisters. In8 ABY,Luke Skywalker fulfilled the prophecy and took the records. In40 ABY, these were the majority in the collection of Jedi datatapes of theNew Jedi Order.[2]
Theplans for the firstDeath Star were recorded on datatapes, which were stolen by a rebel force and provided toPrincessLeia Organa and uploaded intoR2-D2. Later, the tapes came into the possession of theRebel Rebellion, and helped in theBattle of Yavin.
