Command ships orcommand cruisers wereflagships used to command large fleets in battle.
Characteristics[]
Usually very largewarships, they could command dozens of smaller warships[2] and thousands of even smaller ships.The traditional command ships were usually constructed as the largest and most heavily armed and armored warships of a given fleet, meant to epitomize the wealth and resources available to a given civilization.[1]

A command cruiser was a type of command ship. This designation was used for theMaelstrom, the flagship of thefleet ofGalactic Republic warships led byJedi GeneralDarrus Jeht during theClone Wars.[4]
Other examples of large command ships were theRepublic command ship of theGreat Sith War,[5] theInexpugnable-class of theMandalorian Wars,[2] theMandator II-class of the Clone Wars,[6] theExecutor-class[7] andEclipse-class of theGalactic Civil War,[1] theViscount-class[8] and theKor Chokk of theYuuzhan Vong War.[9]
Most classes of warship could be used for command purposes if they were equipped with the necessary facilities. SmallerStar Destroyers and similar warships in both theCIS, theGalactic Republic, theGalactic Empire, theNew Republic, theGalactic Alliance and theNew Galactic Empire were often used by higher officers as their respective command ships, most notably theInvisible Hand bySupreme CommanderGrievous,[10] theDevastator bySupreme CommanderDarth Vader,[11] theChimaera byGrand AdmiralThrawn,[12] theAnakin Solo byColonelJacen Solo[13] and theImperious by Grand AdmiralMorlish Veed.[14]
