Christophsis

Christophsis was aplanet located in theChristoph system ofthe galaxy'sOuter Rim Territories where theBattle of Christophsis was fought during theClone Wars. The crystalline planet was invaded by thebattle droid armies of theConfederacy of Independent Systems but were repelled by theJedi andclone troopers dispatched by theGalactic Republic. Later, the planet was the site of asecond battle between the Republic and the Separatists. After the transformation of the Galactic Republic into theGalactic Empire, the planet was placed under Imperial control, but nevertheless hosted rebellious elements.

Description[]

Christophsis's surface was covered inforests^[11] of naturally occurring,turquoisecrystal spires, making a dramatic and beautiful landscape.^[15] Those crystal forests arose from what theGalactic Atlas described as hexagonally-shaped "tiles," which existed as the world's fields.^[4] It had anatmosphere that was breathable for mosthumanoidspecies^[11] and wasorbited by amoon,Leesis.^[8]

History[]

High Republic Era[]

During theHigh Republic Era,Jedi KnightDez Rydan was involved in a series of exploits on Christophsis that left his former mentor,Jedi MasterJora Malli, concerned as to whether he had curbed his adventurous nature. Sometime after his time on Christophsis, Rydan left the world and joined theZeitooine mission, later becoming embroiled in themission on the Amaxine station. Following that, he finally sought out a way to find emotional balance through theBarash Vow.^[19]

The Clone Wars[]

During theClone Wars, Christophsis was the site of several key conflicts between theConfederacy of Independent Systems Navy and theGalactic Republic.^[15]AlderaanianSenatorBail Organa visited the world to undertake relief work. However, he and his relief mission was trapped by aSeparatist fleet led byAdmiralTrench. ARepublic fleet led byJedi GeneralsAnakin Skywalker andObi-Wan Kenobi, and AdmiralWullf Yularen clashed with Trench'sfleet and managed to defeat it following alengthy battle. This enabled the Republic to deliver vital supplies to Organa and his men.^[8]

The Republic then established amilitary base on Christophsis and began a campaign to retake the planet fromSeparatist forces underGeneralWhorm Loathsom andCountDooku'sSithassassinAsajj Ventress. During the fighting, Kenobi and Skywalker hatched a plan to trapSeparatist droid forces advancing from two towers. However, their plan failed due to the presence of atraitor within the ranks of theclone trooperforces:Clone SergeantSlick. Working together, thecloneofficersCody andRex managed to capture Slick. Meanwhile, Kenobi and Skywalker narrowly escaped a trap at theSeparatist base set by Ventress.^[10]

Before Slick's capture, the rogue clonetrooper managed to damage most of the Republic's weapons, except for their heavy cannons, which were saved by the clones. TheRepublic forces' problems were further complicated by the advance of Loathsom'sRetail Caucusdroid forces. Despite being outgunned and outnumbered, theJedi and Republic were relieved by a youngPadawan namedAhsoka Tano, who had been sent byJedi MasterYoda to be Skywalker's apprentice. Working together, Skywalker and Tano managed to infiltrate the Separatist lines and shut down theirdeflector shield generator while Kenobi stalled the Separatist forces by "negotiating" with Loathsom. This tactic paid off and the Republic succeeded in turning the tables on the Separatist forces and capturing Loathsom.^[9] Newsreels atKamino'smilitary complex carried reports of the Christophsis campaign.^[20]

About twoyears after the Christophsis campaign, the Confederacy still maintained amilitary base on the planet that was largely manned byB1-series battle droids. After fleeing the RepublicVenator-class Star DestroyerVigilance, the Separatistleader Count Dooku, the turncoat Jedi MasterQuinlan Vos, and Ventresscrash-landed on Christophsis' surface. By this stage, Ventress had been cast out by Dooku and had struck an alliance with the Jedi in return for helping Vos tokill Dooku. Dooku and Vos were subsequently pursued by a Republic landing force led by Kenobi and Skywalker. Unknown to everyone, Vos secretly planned to get Dooku to lead him to hismasterDarth Sidious so that he could destroy the Sith once and for all.^[11]

After trudging through Christophsis' crystalline landscape, the three travelers reached the Separatist military base. There, Dooku contacted his master Darth Sidious to secure safe passage from Christophsis. Shortly later, the Republic bombarded the Separatist base. In the midst of the bombardment, Dooku attempted to kill Vos withForce lightning but hit Ventress instead.^[11] Ventress' apparent death^[21] brought Vos back to thelight side and he refused to strike down Dooku; realizing that it would only lead him to thedark side. Dooku managed to escape offworld with the help of Sidious while Kenobi and Skywalker took a penitent Vos into custody.^[11]

Imperial era[]

Following thetransformation of the Galactic Republic into theGalactic Empire, a rebel cell known as theSpectres raided an Imperialconvoy en route to Christophsis inspace. This was the second in a string of raids that had snared an Imperial convoy toRyloth. The rebels then went to raid convoys nearKashyyyk andToydaria before settling down on theOuter Rim world ofLothal.^[22] The Empire also stole thekyber crystals that were holy to the natives and used them for theDeath Star.^[12]

In3 BBY, following the theft ofone of the Empire'smedical frigates, the Galactic Empire tracedrebellious elements to Christophsis and were found to be responsible for the and aseries of arrests were conducted, including theplanet'sprime minister senators, and territorial supervisors. The senators and territorial supervisors were sent to Imperial work camps and the Prime Minister was executed for treason. The Empire also "pacified" thecity ofTophen, the home town of the prime minister which was believed to be the center of the insurgency, as an example to the populace in the hope of quelling radical elements.^[16] The capital city ofChaleydonia^[15] was also attacked by threeImperial-class Star Destroyers which opened fire at civilian buildings, starting with the cityhospitals.^[23]

The news of the arrests^[16] and subsequent "pacifications"^[23] were announced to theImperial Senate byGrand MoffWilhuff Tarkin. Though many of the senators were horrified by the actions they still clapped at the news as they knew a failure to do so may result in the same happening to there own world. Amongst those clapping was Senator Bail Organa and his adopted daughter, theApprentice Legislator,PrincessLeia Organa, who later discussed the matter more truthfully with Bail'swife,QueenBreha Organa, after they returned home toAlderaan.^[16]

Around thetime of theBattle of Jakku, fivepilgrims from theChurch of the Force—theMA-B0 cargo lifter droidMabo,Addar thehuman,Jumon theIakaru,Madrammagath theElomin, andUggorda theDuros—undertook a mission to Christophsis to return several stolen kyber crystals. They had been dispatched by thepastor and philanthropistBrin Izisca. Over a thirteenday period, the pilgrims navigated through Christophsis' dangerous terrain. Maddrammagath, Uggorda, and Jumon were killed by several fearsomeForce-sensitive creatures calledKyaddak. Despite the deaths of their companions, Mabo and Addar manged to return the crystals to a broken crystal wall. Mabo was destroyed when he fell down a hole while Addar was left to fend off a pack of pursuing Kyaddak.^[12]
