Abreath mask,[10] also known as anoxygen mask,[11]breathing mask,[12]respirator,[13] orgas mask,[14] was a device that provided breathable air to whoever was wearing it. In some cases, it also acted as alife support system, especially if the wearers had extensivecybernetics.

A typicaloxygen mask was a small, portable device that allowed an oxygen-breather to survive in low-oxygenatmospheres. Although not suitable for use inrealspace, these hands-free masks were essential equipment for deep-space travel that might require activity outside of astarship.[1]

Tognath who left their homeworld ofYar Togna,[15] asmany were forced to in the wake of theconquest of Yar Togna,[16] needed to wear a breath mask.[15]Saw Gerrera wore a breath mask by the time of thedestruction of Jedha City[4] that seemed to be an oxygen mask[17] but was in fact a way for him to breathe inrhydonium.[18] Two of his followers were the TognathEdrio andBenthic, who both wore breath masks of their own. When remaining behind onJedha to face the impending destruction from theDeath Star, Gerrera ripped his breath mask off of hisarmor.[4]

On theoccupied planetSkako Minor,stormtroopers wore a type of breath mask attached to their helmet.[19] TheSith LordDarth Vader, theSith persona of the fallenJedi KnightAnakin Skywalker, wore asuit of cybernetic armor that featured a breathing mask. Upon his return to thelight side of the Force, he requested the help of his son,Luke Skywalker, in removing his mask, recognizing that he was already dying and that it was his last chance to look upon his son's face without the mask in the way.[9]
