Biography[]
Early life[]

Benthic during his time with the Cloud-Riders
Benthic wasborn in32 BBY[2] on theplanetYar Togna. Sometime during theAge of the Empire, the world wasconquered by theGalactic Empire, forcing Benthic, along withhiseggmate/brother[5]Edrio, to flee and becomerefugees.[4] While many of hispeople were exploited by criminal syndicates likeCrimson Dawn after fleeing theirhomeworld, Benthic joinedEnfys Nest'sCloud-Riders, apirate group that took revenge on the Empire andcrime lords who subjugated his people.[6] In10 BBY, Benthic accompanied Nest and his fellow Riders to arendezvous withHan Solo and hiscrew onSavareen, convincing them to turn againstDryden Vos from Crimson Dawn, which ended with the Riders taking thecoaxium.[8]
Desiring to strike back against the Empire, Benthic and Edrio later joined thePartisans, a rebel militia led bySaw Gerrera,[1] eventually becoming Gerrera's second-in-command.[9]
Actions with the Partisans[]
- «He's lying! I have only allegiance to you!»
- ―Benthic[10]
In5 BBY,[11] Benthic and the Partisans were stationed at abase on[12] theplanet[13]Segra Milo. The Tognath stood outside the base while the rebelLuthen Rael spoke with Gerrera inside, offering the Partisans a mission to assist rebelAnto Kreegyr. Saw refused to risk the lives of his forces for the attack, however, dismissing Kreegyr as aSeparatist.[12] Later on, however, Gerrera was willing to take on the mission.[10]

Benthic was stationed alongside the Partisans at a base on Segra Milo.
When Rael visited again, he approached the base, only to be intercepted by Benthic and a fighters. The Tognath ordered Luthen to stop, then demanded that the rebel be searched. Rael expressed confusion at his orders, but Benthic rebutted that Saw was in a mood for it. The fighter then searched Luthen, and when they pulled out a staff of his, Rael asked that they either put it down or give it back. Irritated, Benthic ushered Luthen deeper into the base, where Saw was waiting for them.[10]
Upon their arrival, Gerrera asked Rael to tell Kreegyr that the Partisans would help him attack theSpellhaus Imperial power station, but the rebel advised Saw not to assist in order to safeguard their rebellion against the Empire, as theImperial Security Bureau had laid a trap for Kreegyr and hismen. In the ensuing argument, Saw interrogated Luthen about thepeople providing him with information, and questioned if he had an agent in the Partisans' ranks. He was shocked when Rael claimed that Benthic was his informant, but as the Tognath stepped forward to rebuke the claim, Luthen grabbed Benthic'sDT-15 blaster pistol and held it to Saw, which compelled Benthic to back off. After a short standoff, Rael convinced Saw to let Anto take the fall for their mutual benefit and took his leave from the base.[10]D
Jedha insurgency[]

Benthic and Edrio during the Jedha insurgency
In1 BBY,[14] the Partisans were engaged in aninsurgency on thedesertmoonJedha withImperial forces. Sometime later, the ImperialpilotBodhi Rook defected from the Empire and sought out Gerrera with a message fromGalen Erso. Benthic and an assortment of Partisansoldiers met with theGigoranmercenaryMoroff, who brought Rook to them. After Benthic briefly interrogated Rook, he ordered his men to put a bag over his head and bring him to Gerrera for further interrogation. They brought Rook for Gerrera and Benthic gave Gerrera Rook'sidenticard anddatastick with the message from Erso which he said he found in Rook's boots, which Rook denied.[15]
Shortly thereafter, Benthic led several soldiers toambush an Imperialkybertransport. During the intense firefight inJedha City,Cassian Andor, who had traveled to Jedha withJyn Erso seeking out Gerrera, killed one of the Partisans in self-defense to protect Erso, which Benthic saw. Soon after, the Imperial transport was defeated.[15] Benthic took the pair for hostiles and ordered his troops to contain them, along withBaze Malbus andChirrut Îmwe. They took them back to theCatacombs of Cadera, and Benthic gave Jyn to Gerrera while the rest were put in cells inside the catacombs. During this time, ImperialDirectorOrson Krennic ordered theDeath Star todestroy Jedha City. The shock wave from the destruction caused the Partisans' nearby hideout to collapse into rubble. During this time, Benthic rushed outside and quickly evacuated his fellow Partisans into escapeshuttles before personally escaping from the base.[15] During the destruction his brother Edrio was killed.[1]
Galactic Civil War[]
- «You asked the Partisans to join you. Do not be surprised when they act like the Partisans.»
- ―Benthic, to Luke Skywalker[16]

Following theBattle ofYavin, Benthic led the surviving Partisans in continuing the fight against the Empire on Jedha. Benthic was laterapproached by theRebel Alliance's representativesPrincessLeia Organa,Luke Skywalker, andCaptainHan Solo. At first, Benthic thought they should kill them.[17] However, Organa offered the Alliance's continued support of the Partisans on Jedha. He was told that the Empire was going to continue taking kybercrystals from Jedha. Despite his doubts, Benthic accepted Organa's offer and discussed the arrangement.[9]
AtAi-jed, Benthic was joined by Skywalker and saw the Empire's latestdefilement on Jedha. Benthic told Skywalker and Solo that they would destroy it.[9]
Sometime later, Organa recruited the help of Benthic and his Partisans for amission toShu-Torun. The mission, led by Organa, was to deal a catastrophic blow to Shu-Torun's economy. Benthic agreed to join based on the fact that he had an opportunity to destroy an Imperial world, not concerning himself with Organa's aspirations. When Benthic and his crew arrived on-world, they quickly made a plan to annihilate the planet—a destruction greater than Jedha's. Benthic learned that if he destroyed theSpike, the whole planet and everyone on it would go with it. With the forced help ofR2-D2 and Skywalker subdued, the Spike was ready to be blown.

Benthic and the partisans were dropped off at Salobea.
As fate would have it, Organa rushed in and persuaded Benthic not to destroy the Spike, saying that wasn't the "dream" of the Partisans—an ideal originating with Saw Gerrera. Benthic agreed and they escaped Shu-Torun aboard theMillennium Falcon. Benthic requested that he and that Partisans be dropped off atSalobea, which he described as "something else for the Partisans." Once there, Solo recounted the time he met Benthic when he was a member of the Cloud Riders and told the leader of the Partisans that he does not have to be anything he does not want to be, especially with the right motivation. Benthic heeded the words and implied that he would change.[7]
