TheAll Terrain Reconnaissance Transport(AT-RT),[4] also known as theAll Terrain Recon Transport,[2] or theRepublic scout walker,[14] was a model of reconwalker[2] manufactured byKuat Drive Yards[1] which saw extensive use during theClone Wars byAdvanced Recon Force Scout Troopers of theGalactic Republic. It was the precursor to theAll Terrain Scout Transport.[14] During theGalactic Civil War, these walkers were adopted by both theGalactic Empire, who usedScout troopers to man the vehicles,[9] and theAlliance to Restore the Republic, who upgraded them to compete with the advancements of the Empire.[10]
The AT-RTs were usually used for a variety of missions including ground support, police support, civil defense, and post-battle cleanup efforts. They occasionally took up position on the front lines of ground battles when difficult terrain prevented the use of larger vehicles.[2]
Description[]

AT-RTs were driven by ARF scout troopers.
Manufactured byKuat Drive Yards for usage by theGalactic Republic, the All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport was a small, lightweight, one-seat,[4] 2.9meter long[1] and 3.45 meter tall[2]walker of theAll-terrain vehicle line used by theGrand Army of the Republic for reconnaissance, forward control, escort, and light strike duties.Piloted by a singleclone trooper, the AT-RT granted both high mobility and tactical flexibility to scoutplatoons. It featured a powerful encryptedcommunications system, a small, but sophisticatedsensor package, and a sound baffling system to assist in stealth operations.[4] The AT-RT cost between 8,000[3] to 20,000credits.[4]
For combat, the AT-RT mounted a chin-mountedMaad 38 laser cannon in its forwardhull,[5] which gave the vehicle anti-personnel and light-armor capabilities and provided the pilot with enough firepower for nearly any mission.[4] However, the forward-mountedblaster could be switched out for a retrofitted chin-mountedflamethrower or a retrofittedZ-6 rotary blaster cannon,[6] while also wielding amortar launcher.[1] The walker also boasted a maximum speed of 75kilometers per hour and could carry up to 100kilograms.[2]
History[]
The Clone Wars[]
AT-RT walkers were used by theGrand Army of theRepublic throughout the war. During theBattle of Christophsis, clones rode AT-RTs to fight offWhorm Loathsom'sdroid army.[15] During theBattle of Ryloth,Lightning Squadron rode AT-RTs alongside theTwi'lek Resistance, who rode their ownblurrg mounts, to liberate the capital city ofLessu.[16]
During theBattle of Umbara,Republic gunships deployed the walkers, which were used by the501st Legion to combat theUmbaran Militia throughout the lengthy campaign.[13] During thebattle on Kiros, 501st and212th Attack Battalion clones rode throughout the city to attack the droids, andAnakin Skywalker and hisPadawanAhsoka Tano rode them to chase after theZygerrianenslaverDarts D'Nar when he fled thecity.[17] Near the end of the Clone Wars,41st Elite Corps clone troopers used them at theBattle of Kashyyyk.[2]
Imperial Era[]

Rebel soldiers used AT-RTs during the Galactic Civil War.
AT-RTs continued to be fielded by theGalactic Empire, being driven byscout troopers. At one point they were deployed alongside anAll Terrain Anti Aircraft.[18] A group of scout troopers utilized at least two AT-RTs onMygeeto, where they battled aRebel group known as thePlasma Devils.[9]
TheAlliance to Restore the Republic, particularly theTatooine rebel cell, used modified AT-RTs.[10]
The Alliance to Restore the Republic also modified some AT-RT's to have a chin-mountedflamethrower, as well as modifying others to have a chin-mountedZ-6 rotary blaster cannon.[6]

In34 ABY, theFirst Order also made use of the walkers. They were part of the deployment onVodran whenJ-Squadron was captured.[11]
