TheInvasion of Begeren was a major engagement between theGalactic Republic and theSith Empire during theGreat Galactic War.Begeren, amineral-richworld in theOuter Rim Territories, had historically belonged to the ancientSith Empire, but after theGreat Hyperspace War of5000 BBY, the Republic claimed the planet as its own and installed agovernor to overseemining operations. In3681 BBY, the revitalizedSith Empireemerged from hiding and initiated the Great Galactic War to reclaim their lost lands and destroy the Republic. Although the war swiftly spread acrossthe galaxy, the Sith's first targets lay in the Outer Rim, and in3678 BBY the Empire launched its massive invasion of Begeren in the hopes of securing the planet and ousting the entrenched Republic regime.
TheImperial Army contingent that was landed on the world consisted of 10,000Imperial soldiers under the command of amilitary officer and aided by the aspiringSith assassin,Teneb Kel. The fiercestfighting occurred just outside theRepublic Governor'spalace in the planetarycapital, and saw the Empire'sAurek Battalion engageRepublic soldiers,towering war droids, and cripplinglaser turrets. The ImperialArmy forces were waiting on word from Kel that he had successfully infiltrated the palace andassassinated the Governor, and although AurekBattalion was devastated bybombing runs from RepublicLiberator-class starfighters, Kel continued on with his mission and successfullykilled theAdvozse Governor of Begeren. The conflict was one of many Imperial successes early in the war, and helped to put Teneb Kel on the path toLordship.
