Hogrum Chalk was aForce-sensitiveHumanmale who servedEmperorRoan Fel until Fel'sdeath in138 ABY. Originally one of the Emperor'sImperial Knights, Chalk was maimed in an accident and consequently fitted with acybernetic suit of life-preservingcyborgarmor. He afterward left active service as an Imperial Knight and became the order'smaster armorer; in his new post, Chalk crafted thearmor worn by his fellow Knights. Before137 ABY,Elliah Fel—Chalk's sister and the Emperor'swife—waskilled by the rogue Imperial KnightEshkar Niin. Following his sister's death, Chalk remained close with his niece,PrincessMarasiah Fel. However, he betrayed herfather and became aspy in the employ ofGrand MoffMorlish Veed. The GrandMoff was anofficer in theSith LordDarth Krayt'sGalactic Empire, an organization opposed by Fel'sEmpire-in-exile in theSecond Imperial Civil War.
In 137 ABY, Chalk was with Fel's forces on thefortress world ofBastion, and he constructed a suit of life-preserving armor forAzlyn Rae, an Imperial Knight who had been gravely injured during abattle on theplanetHad Abbadon. When the Emperor soon after went to the planetAgamar tonegotiate analliance with theJedi Order, Chalk informed Veed of the meeting's location. The Emperor was subsequentlyattacked by aSith–Imperial strike force put together by the Grand Moff, but he managed to escape Agamar with his life. Fel remained unaware of Chalk's betrayal and appointed him as theDirector of Imperial Intelligence, which gave Chalk access to Imperial secrets, some of which he passed on to Veed. When an Imperialfrigate captured theSith LadyDarth Maladi, Chalk had herimprisoned on Bastion and brought Fel to see her after she, in an apparently crazed state, requested an audience with the Emperor.
Maladi claimed to no longer serveDarth Krayt and offered to create a deadlypathogen that Fel could use against the DarkLord—albeit with high civilian casualties—and Chalk urged Fel to accept her offer. When Krayt unleashed his devastatingSith trooperarmy on the Empire-in-exile and its allies during anevacuation of theJedi'sHidden Temple, Chalk reiterated his advice, and the Emperor deferred to his wisdom. During anattack on Krayt's throneworld ofCoruscant, Fel prepared to unleash the pathogen onto the enemycapital, but he was halted and killed by the Imperial KnightAntares Draco, who had sworn an oath to end his Emperor's life if Fel ever succumbed to thedark side of the Force. The allies nevertheless won the battle and consequently the war, and atFel's funeral, Chalk delivered a eulogy and announced thatthe galaxy would be unified under a newGalactic Federation Triumvirate.(Read more…)
