Cham Syndulla was a revolutionaryTwi'lekmale from theplanetRyloth who formed and led theTwi'lek freedom fighters during theClone Wars. Before the war, Syndulla, a member of his planet's nobility, opposed both theGalactic Republic and Ryloth'ssenator,Orn Free Taa, believing Taa to be uncaring of the fate of the Twi'lek people. After the Clone Wars had begun, theConfederacy of Independent Systems invaded Ryloth. Reluctant to take power but wanting the best for his people, Syndulla formed the freedom fighters to combat the oppression and launched acampaign against theSeparatist Droid Army. However, Syndulla and his forces were forced to retreat from the battlefield, and his fighters set up camp in the remains of several fallendroid vehicles on the plains ofCazne.
Syndulla's leadership qualities led his friend andminstrel,Gobi Glie, to compose asong about him, though Syndulla was opposed to the ballad's exaggeration of his traits. AfterJedi MasterMace Windu arrived with Republic forces to liberate Ryloth, Syndulla resolved his issues with Taa and the Republic and entered into an alliance with them.
