Wookieepedia Celebrates 20 Years!
Wook-20th-logo

March 4, starwars.fandom.com—Twenty years ago today,Star Wars fans were eagerly awaiting theREVENGE OF THE SITH, exploring the depths ofNar Shaddaa in theKNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II, and beginning to buildWOOKIEEPEDIA—theStar Wars wiki. As an ever-growing community of volunteers, the Wookieepedia project now celebrates its 20th year.

Our encyclopedia officially reached200,000 articles last month. This was only possible with the work of hundreds upon hundreds of fans over the past twenty years. Most Wookieepedians started off editing with little to no writing or coding experience, but our efforts have brought us closer to the goal of creating the most accurate, comprehensive, and well-presented resource about all thingsStar Wars.

Since Wookieepedia'stenth anniversary in 2015, we have expanded thebreadth, depth, and quality of our documentation of both theStar Wars Legends and the newcanon continuities, as well as coverage ofStar Wars media and production behind the scenes. Wookieepedia has also been buildinga more friendly and welcoming community. Informed by our contributors' experiences, we have launched ongoing efforts in revamping ourpolicies to be clearer and more fair, improving accessibility, and developing newediting tutorials.

Since 2015, editor recruitment has advanced on Wookieepedia, with the great majority of the currentadministrators andreview board members having joined those groups in recent years. The past ten years has also seen the progress of theDiscussions forum and the launch of twenty-two new collaborativeWookieeProjects. These include theProject Stardust initiative focusing on essential topics andProject Pride's efforts to improve the wiki's coverage of LGBTQIA+ topics. Most external links on Wookieepedia now havebackup archival links to keep a better record of the ever-changing Internet, andbot systems have automated many monotonous site maintenance tasks such as page archivals for thestatus article peer review system.

Our work continues unabated. Thousands more pagesneed to be created, lack citations, await expansion, and could usemore images. All the while, the franchise continues to grow andrequire updates. As we enter our third decade, we would love for more readers tojoin our ranks! May the Force be with us in the next twenty years… ✨

Darth Zannah, bornZannah and known as "Rain" during her childhood, was ahumanfemaleDark Lord of the Sith from theplanetSomov Rit who lived during theGolden Age of the Old Republic. While known by theJedi as Rain, she was recruited into theArmy of Light during theRuusan campaign of theNew Sith Wars byJedi MasterTorr Snapit, but after arriving onRuusan, was separated from the group during aSith attack and presumeddead. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, Rain had been saved and befriended by a member of the nativeBouncerspecies calledLaa. When theBrotherhood of Darkness laterunleashed a massiveForce storm, Rain survived by instinctively enveloping herself and Laa with abubble ofForce energy. Not long afterward, the young girl watched as Laa was haplessly killed by Jedi scouts. Stricken with anger and grief, she unwittingly gave in to thedark side and murdered the Jedi with the Force. Her display of rage attracted the attention of the war's only surviving Dark Lord,Darth Bane, who decided to take her as hisapprentice. Rain cast away the handle of her youth and instead embraced her birth name, becoming Darth Zannah.

During the Golden Age of the Old Republic, Zannah's preliminaryForce training took place on the planetAmbria and involved the study of ancientSith magic. In hertutelage underDarth Bane, Zannah executed a variety of missions designed to incite anarchist movements throughout theGalactic Republic, including taking on the nameRainah and manipulating theterroristAnti-Republic Liberation Front into a botchedkidnapping attempt on formerSupreme ChancellorTarsus Valorum. FromHetton, the cell leader, Zannah also recovered information regarding the creation ofholocrons, a secret highly sought by herMaster, who later killed Hetton after Zannah tricked him into anattack on the DarkLord. When theparasites that comprised Bane'sbody armor began to cause him concern, Zannah was tasked with infiltrating theJedi Templearchives onCoruscant to obtain information about the creatures. Her mission complete, Zannah was surprised to encounter her cousinDarovit, who confessed that he had exposed her presence to the Jedi. Zannah fled Coruscant with him and met Darth Bane onTython, where the Sith prepared tobattle the pursuant Jedi. Despite their numbers, all of the Jedi were slain, although Bane was grievously wounded and on the brink of dying. Zannah returned with her Master to Ambria and demanded on threat of death that thelocal healer save the Dark Lord, which he agreed to do only after Zannah revealed the Sith presence on Ambria to the Jedi. She betrayed and killed the healer upon completion of the procedure and also used her power to drive Darovitmad. Therespondent Jedi assumed that he was theSith Lord they sought andkilled him, effectively convincing the Jedi of the Sith's final eradication. With no surviving witnesses, the existence of Darth Zannah and her Master remained safely anonymous.

The Sith relocated toCiutric IV, and over the course often years, Zannah grew to be an accomplishedSith sorceress who equaled Darth Bane in strength. When she failed to confront him for the position of Dark Lord, Bane believed she lacked initiative. However, Zannah had already begun to contemplate his demise. On amission toDoan, she learned of aDark Jedi namedSet Harth andenlisted the reluctant young man as her apprentice. Zannah returned with him to Ciutric IV to confront her own Master, only to find that Bane had beencaptured by theDoan Royal Guard. She then returned to Doan, where she infiltrated theplace of Bane's imprisonment. She located Bane andfought him, but theirduel ended in a draw when both were forced to flee theprison. Soon after, Bane, who had taken theIktotchiDarth Cognus as his new apprentice, called Zannah to meet him on Ambria, where theydueled for the final time. Zannah was initially overwhelmed by her Master's attacks, but she was able to use hersorcery to injure him. As a last resort, Bane attempted totransfer his essence into her body, but was defeated when Zannah's spirit condemned his to the void of the dark side. Zannah then took Darth Cognus as her apprentice and continued Bane'slegacy as Dark Lord of the Sith.(Read more…)
