e areguest observers atMcDonaldObservatory which is operated by the University of Texas at Austin. Our observing site is on Mt. Locke, whose peak is topped by the domes ofthe 2.1-meter Otto Struve telescope and the 2.7-meter Harlan J. Smith telescope.
ur humble window onthe universe is a sneaky powerhouse of observing capability.  This dynamic duo--a 4-inch refractor piggybacked on a 20-inch reflector--was designed for coronagraphic imagingand has provided us with a wealth of information about the sodium atmospheresof both Io and the Moon. Custom made by Jeffrey Baumgardner this instrument was built on site at Boston University's Scientific Instrument Facility by Jeff and Senior Experimental Machinist, Buddy Boudreau.
