TheEastern Alliance was formed on 6 May1891 by six predominantlyLinlithgowshire clubs;Mossend Swifts, Armadale, Bathgate Rovers, Bo'ness,Broxburn and Leith Hibernian. Broxburn Shamrock and Kirkcaldy were lateradmitted but Leith Hibernian, a club related to the original Hibernian club,actually disbanded before the competition started and were replaced byAdventurers. Kirkcaldy dropped out late in the season and their resultsexpunged. Due to four of the clubs not completing their fixtures, thecompetition was declared null and void and the league disbanded in the closeseaason.The championship trophy was presented to the league by MrsMcLean of the Masons' Arms of Bathgate.

On 6 Jan 1894 at theEast of Scotland FA Rooms, George VI Bridge in Edinburgh, six West Lothianclubs set up anEast of Scotland League,this was the first of several leagues that have been called by this name.

At the meeting thefollowing were elected as officials:

Hon. President - ColWanshope ofNiddry

President - Mr Latimer(Bathgate)

Vice President - MrJohnston (Bonnyrigg Rose)

Treasurer - Mr Hislop(Penicuik Athletic)

Secretary - Mr Miller(Bonnyrigg Rose)

Entry was set at �1with a match guarantee of �3 and the home side meeting all expenses.

Although at themeeting it was agreed to enter no more clubs this season, Broxburn Shamrock wasallowed to join later. The competition didn't fare well and was unfinishedprimarily because it had started so late in the season.

In 1895 aLinlithgowshire League was organised but lasted onlyone season with many fixtures unfulfilled.
