Double Blast in Makhachkala, 1 Dead, 60 Injured

On Thursday, two explosions set off inMakhachkala, the capital ofDagestan Republic, near the Ministry of Home Affairs. 61 people were injured, including 44 members of police personnel, and one policeman in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel was killed, according to a police source. Other victims are civilians.

      Two car bombs went off shortly after midnight near the city's central square with an interval of some 15-17 minutes. The second blast targeted a police convoy which rushed to the scene of the first explosion. The power of the first explosive device was about 3 kilos in trotyl equivalent. The power of the second explosive device was about 43 kilos.

      Investigation is being carried on. Russian Committee of Inquiry has already instituted the criminal proceedings under an article 205 of Russia's Criminal Code - "Terrorist Act".

        Moreover, according to RIA Novosti news agency, one more explosion set off on the Dakhaev street, shortly before two blasts near the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is taken to be that a car, which carried the explosive device, blown up by accident. Four passengers of the car were killed, their identities are being discovering at the moment.
