Metaball²

Metaball² – the next level: a blob consisting of smaller blobs:

blob

… Flash Player 10

… smaller blobs are particles in the energy field of the larger blobs, searching for the position where energy=1

did u generating 2D texture with glowing circles and after convert this texture to 3d? or u use marching cubes alogrithm? 🙂

    2 Andre Anaya:
    There r 2 base techniques.

    1) 2D metaballs rendering as 3D (article, overview technique):

    http://www.gamedev.net/reference/programming/features/isometa2d/

    2) More impressive technique is based on marching cubes algorithm (MCA). MCA use to build polygonal approximation of isusurface of scalar vector field.

    Detailed article locate there:

Thanks Alexander, those are the two main techniques! Which I’ve been using in my earlier blob-demos as well.

In case of this, the movement of the smaller blob is like inhttp://www.cs.cmu.edu/~aw/pdf/particles-reprint.pdf , maybe mathematically not as advanced as in that link … I’ll publish the code any time soon, as I get it commented etc …

Hi! Your blog would be awesome if it wasn’t for the Snap thingy. It’s really annoying and it has very little use.

    Kudos from Lisbon

‘Snap’ – Yes, I know, it snaps on my nervs every now and then as well. If that’s the worst on my blog, I’m really flattered, thanks!

… you can switch off the snap on its settings, right corner on top.
