Strong Caves Protest
SCHOOL ON NEW SITE
Without Cost To Department
Thc monthly meeting of the Caves
»nd Etna Creek L.P.A. waa held in the
School of Art«. Mr. Bert Lees presided.
There was a good attendance of
members.
Vary keen interest wat displayed!
when the matter of the removal of Hie
Central Barmoya School was brought up
for discussion, and it was evident that
the parents concerned strongly resent
th« attitude of the Director of Educa-
tion-that the school committee should
remove the school to the new site with-
out coat to the Department of Public
Instruction.
i Manv suggestions were made hv
I Barents, the foremost being tn erect
a humble galvanised1 iron shed on
the new site. leaving the Central
I Barmoya School where it ls, and
compel the department to send av
toaoher along.
. The attitude .of the director ia hard
io understand, as there are 16 children
ready "to enrolment when the school lias
been removed to the more populated
cent».
LONG RIDE TO SCHOOL.
It waa pointed out that only re-
cently a grant of £100 was made to
the Allenstown School for the erec-
tion of a swimming pool.
At the same tims these 16 children
(rho want a school, ride tile distance
from the Caves to Longreach, in two
months, or, during their school term,
ride approximately the distance from the
Caves to England and half-way bark to
be educated. No wonder the children
are "done in" physically, as riding is
a very strenuous exercise, even for
adulta.
The following résolution was thea
carried unanimously : " That the secre-
tary (Mr. F. G. Ax eisen) be instructed
to write Mr. O. Daniel, M.L.A., and in-
vite him to bring an inspector, repre-
senting the Department of Public In-
struction, to meet the parents at th»
pioposed new site, which ii Mr. Ras-
mussen's corner, Rossmoya-road, at a
date (which mast be in the near future)
suitable to Mr. Daniel and the inspector.
Saturday afternoon ia preferred by th»
parents.
The meeting concluded with a unani-
mous vote of thanks to Mr. T. Rass
inuisen, Bronte, for his generous, dona-
tion of three acres of land for tb»
school when removed. Mr. and Mrs. H.
Hins, Rossmoya-road, had kindly con-
sented to accommodate the teachers
when the time arrived1.
