CHILDREN'S FANCY
DRESS BALL
Wattlebank State School
MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
A very large gathering of parents
and friends of the children of the
Wattlebank State School, formerly Bar-
moya Central, gathered at Thc Caves
School of Arts last Saturday night for
the children's fancy dress ball. Visitors)
from Rockhampton and siirroundiunr dis-
tricts vere present, and the danc-
ing floor was crowded with en-
thusiasts, many children's danccb being
i a feature.
j Thirty-two children paraded in the
grand march, under the direction of
Miss Hore, the teacher, and th« many
I varied and finking costumes Mers
J greatly admired by the large gathering.

Thc singles were: Jl. Ferguson (Fan),
J. Kraatr. (Chinese), N. Lindlev (Saucy,
But O.K.), B. Wciek (Yachting), F.
Weick (Clown), J. Weick (Pirate), M.
Elkins (Bo'-Fcep), H. Elkins (Indian),
R. Lindley (Conn), 13. Elkins (Hot
Water Bag), A. While (Woodland
Fairy), D. Hinz (Puck and Green Peas),
I J. Ferguson (Superstition), E. Fergu-
son (Butterfly), J. Hinz (Pink Fairy),
J B. Ferguson (Chinaman), and P. Fergu
I son (Con Bong).
The judges had a most difficult task in
selecting the prizewinners. Mrs S. Niel-
sen., Mrs J. Keish, and Mrs A. Steele
made the awards aa follows: Best dress-
ed couple over 10 years, L. William:)
and B. Lindley (Magpie Pierrots); beat
dressed girl, over 10, M. Ferguson (Fan) ;
best dressed boy, over 10, B. Weick
(Yachting); best dressed couple, under
10, B. Johnson and W. Connolly (Cab-
aret) ; best dressed boy, under 10, J.
Weick (Pirate) ; best dressed girl, under
10, J. Ferguson (Superstition). Special
prizes: M. Elkins, Bo-Peep; P. Lindley
and ll. Lindley, Woodland Fairy and
Brownie; J. Hinz, Pink Fairy; B. Con-
nolly and R. Weick, Toy Soldiers.
During the evening many novelty
dances were decided. The children's
Monto Carlo dance was won by Mavis
Weick and Jack Kraatz, thc adults'
Monte Carlo one-step by Miss D.
Kraatz and L, Harder, a box of choco-
lates by Mr C. White, and a box of
biscuits by Mr R. Kitchin and partner.
The music was supplied by Brazils' or-
chestra, extras being supplied by Miss
G. Grant and Mr J. Édminstone. Mr W.
Kraatz was M.C.
The chairman of the Livingstone
Shire Council (Cr W. Todd), in present-
ing the prizes to thc various winners,
congratulated Miss Hore and the com-
mittee of the Wattlebank" school on the
excellent evening. The teacher must
have performed a large amount of hard
work in the organisation of the func-
tion, and it was pleasing to witness
such an excellent response. As chair-
man of the council, which presented a
large photograph of the late King for
the best essay on "The Life of King
George V" by schools in thc four divi-
sions, congratulated the Behool i\ ut
winning the essay for No. 4 division.
The effort reflected the greatest credit
upon the teacher (Miss Hore) and the
school, concluded Mr Todd.
Mr .T. Lindley, chairman of the school
committee, voiced his appreciation of
the assistance of all, particularly Miss
Hore, and tho judges, Mesdames A.
Steele, J. Neish, and S. Nielson.
The committee's funds will bene6t
considerably as a result of the function.
