THE CAVES
Arbor Pay attracted a fair number
of parents to the Caves School. A very
energetic committee comprising Messrs.
G. Symonds (chairman), T. Olsen snr.,
A. Tait, A. West. F. Harder, W. Glas-
by and R. Ferguson and their ladies
assisted to make the day a most suc-
cessful one. The children were well
catered for in the way of lollies, fruit,
and refreshments. The various races re-
sulted---First grade (girls)--- D. West 1,

Those who use the Rossmoya-Caves
main road, especially the section oppo-
site Mr. Furzemann's property, which
has been completed and opened for
traffic, find this a great boon. This
portion of the road was previously a
motorist's "nightmare" in the rainy
season. Other improvements have been
effected and the Livingstone Council is
interesting itself in the matter of a
bridge across Rudolph's Creek.
On the Barmoya-Caves road Mr. Con-
don, the contractor for the first section,
has made an excellent start. When
Barmoya settlers, as well as motorists
to Olsen's Caves, will have a much
shorter distance to travel than here-
tofore.
Parents of children interested in the
removal of the Barmoya Central State
School to a suitable site will be pleased
to know that the Education Depart-
ment, finding that the attendance would
be equal to, or in excess of 18, will
have the school removed free of charge
to a site on Mr, Rasmussen's selection.
It is understood Mr. Rasmussen donated
three acres of his land.
During the last three weeks the
Caves district benefited greatly through
splendid grass rains. Although it would
have been welcomed earlier in the year,
it is doing good, a splendid shoot in
the grass being noticeable.
At the. meeting of the Caves and Etna
Creek L.P.A., at which Mr. 0. Daniel,
M.L.A., Mr. W. Young, of the Main
Roads Board, and Crs. White and Todd,
of the livingstone Council, were pre-
sent, all stood in silence for one minute
out of respect to Mr. J. Canfell and
Mrs. J. Matthews, old and respected
residents who had passed away. Letters
of condolence are to be sent to the
relatives. A letter was read from the
Minister for Transport stating that all
peanuts produced in Queensland were
the property of the Peanut Board. Pea-
nuts could not be accepted by the rail-
way except by permission of the Board.
The deputation which waited on the
Minister for Agriculture in regard to
bonus on wallaby scalps reported that
there was no chance of this. Mr. Young
discussed the question of a deviation on
the Barmoya-Caves road. He said that
it was imperative to make the deviation
through Mr. G. Birkbeck's property. He
was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The Livingstone Council is to be asked
to effect repairs on the Barmoya-road.
Mr. Daniel was thanked for his assist-
ance in the matter of the removal of
the Barmoya School.
