PLAN AIR RACE
The Minister for Air, Mr
McMahon, yesterday announced
that a new unit had been
formed in the R.A.A.F. to plan
RAAF. participation in the
United Kingdom New Zealand!
air race. - t The
unit, known was No. 1 Long!
Range Flight, would train crews
to fly two RAAF's. Canberra
jetNbombers in the race next
October.
When crews had been selected,
test flights would be carried out
over long distances to train the
crews as teams, and to give
them experience in long distance
flying with Canberras. J
Mr. McMahon said the first
officer to be posted to the units
would be Squadron Leader P. R. '
Raw, Polish Cross of Valour, of
Bayswater, Victoria.
Squadron Leader Raw, 30,
had been serving with No. 82
(bomber) wing at Amberley,
Queensland _
