Two Stars
May Quit
James. Mason, Britain's lead
ing box office star and his wife,
author-actress Pamela Kellino,
have just returned from enter
taining troops in Germany. Of
his immediate plans, James said:
it is quite possible we shall
leave films altogether, settle in a
place like Mexico, write and
paint together, and to hell with
everything else."
Few of his fans know that Ma
son is' a first-class painter, and
his wife a novelist of repute.
Pamela's latest book, "Ignora
mus," will be published in Feb
ruary, James illustrated it.
ii ne aoes stay in nims it iooks
as though Britain will lose him,
at least for a time, to Hollywood.
The film he would like t,o make is
"The Upturned Glass," written
by comparatively unknown John
Monaghan, whom Mason met in
Germany. He tried to get Mona
ghan into Britain so he could
make the film here with Sydney
Box, but the Home Office took
so long to give permission, that
Monoghan went to America.
The reason why Mason turn
ed down the part of Bruce Carl
ton in "Forever Amber," was
"because the novel was a very
silly book, and the Aim script no
improvement."
