PRINSEP v. PRINSEP.
———◆———
A Judge's Son Respondent
———
A divorce suit in which some peculiar
evidence was given was heard before Sir
William Windeyer to-day in the Divorce
Court.
The case was one in which Adeline Mary
Princep sought for a dissolution of her
marriage with one Arthur Thorby Haver-
sleigh Prinsep on the ground of desertion,
and the respondent's adultery with bigamy
with one Ada Broadbent.
Mr. Lambton appeared for the petitioner.
There was no appearance for the respon-
dent.
Adeline Mary Prinsep deposed that she
was married to the respondent at Calcutta
on July 28, 1883, according to the rules of
the Church of England. She was not of
age at the time. Some two months after
marriage the respondent left for Queensland,
and in July, 1884, she came out to Aus-
tralia after him. On arriving in the colo-
nies she found that he had no occupation,
and that he was heavily in debt. He
took her clothes and pawned them. They
came to Sydney in 1885 and lived for a time
at Stanmore, and respondent obtained an
appointment as a teacher. His father was
a judge in Calcutta, and petitioner went
back to Calcutta to see if respondent's
father would give him any money.
She returned to Sydney in 1887 on
tho respondent writing to suy he
had found permanent employment. She
found him in Melbourne and not in a posi
tion to support her. He again pawned her
clothes. She again returned to Calcutta to
try and got some money, and on her return
to Australia left her three children behind.
The respondent did not support her, and she
earned her own living by teaching.
The certificate of respondent's bigamous
marriage under an assumed name with
Ada Broadbent was put in and proved.
The decree nisi was granted and made
returnable in three months, the petitioner to
have the custody of the three children.
