SANDGATE COUNCIL.
ALD. J. DALTON—MAYOR.
SANDGATE, Tuesday.—The statutory meeting
of the Sandgate Town Council was held in
the Council Chambers to-night for the purpose
of electing a Mayor for the 1920 term. Mr.
A. S. Parry (town clerk) presided, and there
was a full council, including the newly-elected
aIdermen—Aldermen
Allom, Hancock, and Phil-
lips. The spectators gallery was packed. On
the dais were, Mr. Sizer, M.L.A., ex-AIderman
Gowen, Fersguson, Pointon, Lovelock, and Craig.
Alderman CIarkson nominated Alderman Al-
lom; Alderman Hancock nominated Alderman
Dalton ; Alderman Dalton nominated Alderman
Bowser; Alderman Lunn nominated Alderman
Clarkson, and on a vote being taken Alderman
Allom received four votes, while Alderman Dal-
ton received five votes. As Alderman Dalton
received the required number of votes he was
declared elected.
Alderman Hancock conducted the Mayor to
his chair.
At a special meeting held subsequently Al-
Mayor (Alderman J. Dalton) presiding, commit-
tees were appointed and wages fixed.
Aldermen Allom, Clarkson. and Phillips all
refused to go on any committee of the council
as at present constituted. They contended that
the wishes of the ratepayers had been flouted.
