College bv thirteen points to six,
at the kick-off of the Rugby
Union's Country Week, at Manly
Oval, yesterday.
For the winners, F. Hassett. no
relation to the cricketer, showed an
abundance of speed, and he was
well supported by G. Dawson, half
back, R. Moore, R. Eldridge, and
R. Ward; W. McCue, at inside
centre, also played a sterling game.
Best plovers for the College were H.
Morton W. Moore, forwards, and P.
Reynolds, five-eight.
Federal Capital Territory 13 (W. McCue.
C. Smith. G. Dawson, tries; J. Donohue, 2
goals) defeated Hawkesbury College 6 ID.
Daly, try: P. Reynolds pen. goal).
Until the closing stages of the game
Newcastle were always too good for
Combined West, at Manly Oval, winning
20-17.
Newcastle forwards showed to advantage,
W. Dean, H. Norris and S. Goodwin being a
useful trio. F. Ball and J. Carroll were
stubborn defenders.
Combined Wests' best players were H.
Biazely. H. Tonkin, forwards: G. Powell,
five-eighth, and 5. Ley. half.
Newcastle 20 (S. Goodwin. J. Greenwood,
I. McKensey, tries; F. Ball, field goal. pen.
goal, 2 goals) defeated Combined Wests 17
