NEW PUNT OPENED.
PUTNEY TO MORTLAKE.
The new vehicle ferry from Mortlake to
Putney was opened yesterday by the Minister
for Lands (Mr. Ball).
The Minister said he was certain that a
ferry would not satisfy the residents of the
districts concerned, and that before long the
councils would request the Government to
allow them to construct a bridge, for the
great amount of traffic between the north and
south sides of the Parramatta River warranted
the construction of a bridge.
At a reception which followed, Mr. Ball said
that the punt had cost £4000, and would be
free to the public. It would cost £3000 per
annum for upkeep, and would accommodate
six or eight motor cars.
