Strip-Tease
AT THE WONDERLAND PICTURES?
SAT., MON. AND TUES^ NOVEMBER 4, € AND 7 '
The notice said 'Gentle-
men are earnestly 3%ques
ted not to climh over the
seats to get nearer the
front row.'
Betty Box glanced around.
There -were Navy men
among the audience, Army
men, Marines, gentlemen in
bowler hats who slipped um
brellas and brief cases care
fully under their : seats, and
even a few self-consciouis
callow youths. But Betty!
Box appeared to be the only
woman, inis might have
embassassed any other wo
man. But Betty- was there
strictly on business. In Doc
ter In Love Joan Sims and
Liz Fraser do a strip-tease
act. And the question that
arose was 'How do you ;
film a strip-tease act.
Betty did not know even
the barest facts about it.
Strip-tease is one side of her
education as a' film - produ- 1
cer that she had previously j
neglected. Ralph Thomas
|-ud not know. Nor did Mau
rice Carter. So the three of
them decided to find out in
the most practical way
available — by going to strip
tease clubs themselves. What
exactly were they looking '
for? 'We wanted to fiwfl ;
1
out how the places' were
run,' said Maurice Carter.
*We had to find out what
sort Of people were in the
audiences and how the clubs
were decorated, m really is
true what they say. Nearly ?
every man in the audience
was a 'some-thing-in-the-
cfty' tjgpe. You know— with
a'bowler hat, brief case and
rolled umbrella. As the art

gentlemen not to

TOW.'
The ^ costumes Joan Sims

stnp-teasers are rather
more conventional thah
those seen in the LnnHnn
clid-s. When the great
search for strip-club atmos
phere finally finished, Betty
Box, Ralph Thomas and
Maurice Carter returned to
Pinewood with their note
books full and their pockets
bulging with membership
cards. '
You can only get into'
these places by -becoming a
member,' explained Mau
nce. 'We think that Betty
w a record-holder— she
must belong to more strip
tease clubs than anv
woman in the country.'
Betty, in fact, found her
tour of the strip-clubs most
musing- Usually she was
the only woman in the audi
ence arid it didn't worry
ker at all. But Ralph
Thomas was quite scandal
ised about the whole thing.
'?Never again,' was his final
comment. ~
