"Shine" Ilosking' Work
BOUNDLESS ENERGY
"Come on! Use your other foot!"
Anyone who has witnessed S. Hos
king coaching Port at Ahlberton Oval
has heard these orders shouted tI the
players as they go through their pre
paration for the matches ahead.
Possessing boundless energy, Hosking
enters into the training with his charges,
and is one of the busiest men on the
arena. His sprinting shows that he still
retains a great deal of the dash which
carried him to the forefront of, South
Australian football in former years.
: One of the main points stressed to
players is to learn to kick with either
foot and to turn both ways. This phase
of training is well catered for each sea
son, and it would not be the fault of the
coach if the players were not adepts at
kicking.
Accurate passing, position play, and
goalkicking are features of his instruc
tions. He is often to be seen combining
with players in an effort to teach the
forward men the art of leading into the
goal. *
*A quick hand pass here, and a smnal
foot pass there, and the coach has hi
men racing into the sticks. Then in th
next instant he is tearing along wit'
another man, worrying him to give hiz
training in picking up a ball at full spee
while being tackled by an opponent.
Tireless in his endeavors, Hosking I
one of the first on .the field on a trainin
night, and invariably the last to leave
Whether they arrive early or late, th
players go through their training unde
the eagle eye \of the coach.
