SYDNEY: Canberra is to get its
own XPT train service to Sydney
next year, cutting 50 minutes off
the trip. ,
The NSW State Rail Authority an*
nounced yesterday major changes in
schedules throughout the State. The
Canberra-Sydney XPT run will begin in
April, 1983, and take four hours.
A one-way ticket is likely to cost $32,
an increase of approximately ISO per .
cent on the current rail price between
Canberra and the: NSW capital.
The authority also announced a new
air-conditioned Canberra-Sydney ser- ,
vice, to begin next May. It will leave !
Canberra in the evening and return
from Sydney next morning, replacing
the current non-air-conditioned train.
The Canberra-Monaro Express will
run with a refurbished air-conditioned
train from July with extra seats avail
able from next November.
The Canberra changes are fart of a
State-wide change in rail services.
The first NSW* XPT service begins
in April, on the SydneyOringe and the
Sydney-Dubbo runs.
