Auburn Elects
Executive Officers
Mr. Brian J. Mooney
way elected town clerk
of the newly-constituted
-Auburn Council at its
first meeting last week.
Former Lidcombe town clerk,
Mr. W. R. Ames, was elected
deputy town clerk.
Mr. Mooney entered Local
Government about 24 years. ago
and was appointed Town Clerk
of Auburn in 1936.
Prior to his appointment there
he was shire clerk at Coonabara
bran, one of the largest shires
ini the State.
His first appointment as town
clerk was at Brewarrana, on the
Barwon River, in 1926.
Mr. Mooney served overseaS
with the 33rd Batt. A.I.F. during
World War I.
Other appointirents were:
Chief accountant, Mr. P. J.
Casey; assistant, Mr. A. A.
Porter; chief rate clerk, Mr..G. J.
Lane; assistant, Mr. R. A. Bain
bridge; chief building inspector,
Mr. C. A. Welsh; first assistant,
Mr. R. McDonald; second assist
ant, Mr. C. M. Johnson.
The selection of engineer and
assistant engineer was deferred
pending further consideration by
the Works Commiittee.
After the appointments were
announced, the Mayor (Alder
man N. G. Crook) said:
"I expect the utmost co-opera
tion from the administrative staff
elected, and- I must congratulate
them.
"I am very happy at the
manner in which the aldermen
determined the selection of the
officers.
S"Everything proceeded in com
pete harmony and I hope I do
not have to exercise my casting
vote during my term of office.
"However, if I shoud have to
do this, I can only vote as I see
fit for the best interests of all
concerned."
