Newcastle beaten
in Amco Cup
NEWCASTLE: The
Newcastle rugby league
team suffered yesterday
its second representative
football defeat in
four days when
Northern Division
defeated it 26-17 in the
Amco Cup at
Newcastle Sports
Ground.
Northern fullback Bill
Monie was voted
man-of-the-match.
SYDNEY: Penrith ran
in eight tries to one to
overwhelm Western
Division 36-5 in their
Amco Cup game at
Leichhardt Oval tonight.
Penrith's victory
avenged its 1974 cup final
loss when Western
Division won the
inaugural Amco Cup.
Centre Ross Gigg, who
moved to the wing when
Kerry Quinn was replaced
at half-time, notched three
tries in the last eight
minutes as Western
Division's defence fell
apart.
Quinn had scored two
tries during the first half.
Penrith's other winger
John Ryan also crossed
twice.
