Phillips heads GB eventing team

Zara Phillips held her nerve during the show-jumping to win gold in Aachen.

Zara Phillips is among five members of the GB eventing line-up confirmed for the 2008 Olympics by British officials.

Phillips will partner Toytown, who she rode to individual three-day eventing gold in the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

Also Olympics-bound are Sharon Hunt (Tankers Town), Mary King (Call Again Cavalier), Lucy Wiegersma (Shaabrak) and William Fox-Pitt (Ballincoola).

The eventing competition starts in Hong Kong on 9 August.

Phillips, the granddaughter of the Queen, will be following a family tradition by competing at the Olympics.

Her father, Mark Phillips, won a gold medal in the three-day event at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Her mother, Princess Anne, won the European title in 1971 and competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympics in the same event.

"It's nice to be selected, but we still have a long way to go," Phillips said.

"I am lucky in that Toytown has been to championship events before, so he knows about big occasions and has been consistent, but an Olympic Games really is special."

British Olympic Association chief executive Simon Clegg said: "Equestrian was able to deliver Team GB a medal of each colour in Athens, and the experience in this team and their recent results bode well for success in Hong Kong."
