Williamson was unable to halt Chester's slide down the table

Chester City have sacked manager Bobby Williamson after a run of just one win in 14 games which has sent them plummeting down the League Two table.

Youth team coach Simon Davies has been placed in temporary charge for Tuesday's game with Darlington.

Saturday's 1-0 defeat at league leaders Milton Keynes Dons left Chester in 17th place, 10 points above the drop zone.

Former Hibernian boss Williamson had taken charge at the Deva Stadium in May 2007, succeeding Mark Wright.

He was replaced by Steve Mungall, who was one of five men to manage City during their 2001/02 season in the Conference.

Former Republic of Ireland and Liverpool star Jason McAteer also joined the coaching staff last month.

After being sacked as Plymouth boss in September 2005, Williamson had coached the Scotland B side and been shortlisted to take over at Livingston, before being appointed by Chester just after the end of last season.
