For the more active, beach soccer is coming to Minehead.

As part of the preparations for Disney XD, the new children's television channel is joining England Beach Soccer, the official governing body of the sport, in hosting competitive matches for children.

The event will include skills and drills, coaching sessions with members of the England national beach soccer squad and demonstrations from a freestyle display team.

As popularity for the sport in the UK gathers momentum, the hunt is now on for officials to seek out the next generation of talented youngsters to nurture and help rise up through the ranks.

Teams are chosen on a first come first serve basis, and with the demand for places expected to be high, players are encouraged to register their team by emailing james@englandbeachsoccer.com or calling 020 8232 7184.

Go to a street party with a difference as Bridgwater Arts Centre presents Topsy Turvy Day.

From 1pm until 6pm, live bands, circus performers, puppets, storytelling and street theatre will take place at Castle Street.

The street will also be lined with an array of arts, crafts and local produce, and outside the British Legion Club will be a barbeque.

There will also be a children's carnival parade which is open to all - children just need to turn up in their costume to Trinity Hall at 1pm.

Wellington Dog Show

Wellington Action Group for Dogs (WAGS) works in the community to help promote responsible dog ownership.

Freddie Parker from the charity said: "For many people dogs are a life line to the outside world and a reason to get up in the morning."

At the show there will be raffles, a dog agility demonstration and a dog and duck herding display as well as a novelty dog show including classes such as prettiest bitch and Waggiest Tail.

The event will be held on Sunday at the Wellington Recreation Ground, 12-5pm.  Entry is free.

'Escape' Day

Public donations to vital life-saving charities are down - some have reported a drop of 50 per cent in two years.

Burnham Hovercraft have seen a 50% drop in donations over two years

So to try and put more money in the bank, over 30 emergency services from across the West Country will be gathering in Burnham-on-Sea this Sunday to take part in a day of action-packed rescue demonstrations and displays.

ESCAPE - the Emergency Services Community Awareness and Promotion Event - will be held on Burnham's South Esplanade from 10am to 5pm and will also include many children's activities and scores of stands and stalls.

Groups including Burnham's BARB hovercrafts, RNLI lifeboats, HM Coastguard, Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Somerset Fire and Rescue and West Country Ambulance will be taking part as will Somerset Air Ambulance, Skywatch Rescue micro lights, Exmoor Search and Rescue, Freewheelers Blood Bikes, Somerset 4x4 Response, Mendip Cave Rescue, St John Ambulance and the police's dog team.

Vehicles and teams from each service will be on hand during the day and life-saving demonstrations will take place in the sea, air and on the beach, giving spectators a unique chance to see the work up-close.

BARB, the charity that operates Burnham's rescue hovercrafts, has organised the event since it started in 2004.

Priorswood Allotment Association is holding its annual produce show at its Obridge Road site.

This year, the show coincides with the penultimate day of National Allotments Week, and the Association is opening the gates of its site for the afternoon to the local community to promote the awareness and availability of allotments locally and show them the strength of support and interest in allotment gardening.

Gates open from 1pm until 5pm.
