Jet wreckage was spread around the streets |
The number of people killed when a US military F-18 fighter jet crashed into a house has risen to four after the discovery of a child's body. The jet crashed into a residential area of San Diego as it was preparing to land at a nearby military base. The 15-month-old girl was discovered after the bodies of her sister, mother and grandmother had been found. The San Diego Fire Department described the scene of the crash as "a heavily populated area" near Interstate 805. The Federal Aviation Administration said the jet was intending to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and that the pilot had ejected. The crash occurred two miles (3.2km) from the base, it added. The Marine Corps said the jet, a two-seater F/A-18D Hornet, had been on a training mission with only one pilot on board.
