| dcterms:abstract | - In view of the political aspects, the Paris Commune of 1871 provides a significant example for the history of democracy. It had "accomplished an approximation to the veritable democracy"(Howard Zinn), and it was an answer relevant to the question on the historical case of an ideal society that has the real democracy and the real freedom. However, the democracy of the Paris Commune was not the one accustomed for us. It was neither a procedural and formal democracy nor a direct democracy which we conventionally invoke from the word 'real democracy'. Its democracy was something that had been founded on the spontaneous 'associations' of the Communards, and thus, the Commune itself was another association. Whatever the contemporaries and the later commentators has said about the Commune, the Communards had considered the place in where they actively participated and engaged themselves as such. At the Commune, all of political, economic, and cultural elements had been operated through its participants' associations, and so their private livings became merged with their public "actions"(Hannah Arendt). And wherever their "actions" implemented, they directly linked with and influenced on the policies of Communal government. Consequently, the notion of association was not able to be defined to the economy and a particular organization such as the productive cooperatives or labor unions in the Commune: The economic association was only a section in the association of the Commune. In short, the "veritable secret of Commune"(K. Marx) that briefly existed only for 72 days was that it designed the general reorganization of society through the association and launched this design (xsd:string)
