어른들을 위한 정치풍자동화 마우스랜드, 가면 갈수록 국민은 경제, 사회, 복지에서 늘 고통받고 있는 현실을 너무나도 닮은 우화 이 책은 캐나다 정치인 토미 더글러스가 1962년 의회에서 연설한 ‘마우스랜드’ 이야기를 그림책으로 엮어 만든 것이다. 그는 국가권력이 노동자의 정당한 목소리를 탄압한 것에 항거하고, 또 질병으로부터 고통받는 국민을 위해 노력한 북미 지역 최초의 민주사회주의 정부(캐나다 서스캐처원 주 지방정부) 수상이다. 이 책은 민주주의 국가에서 투표를 해도 변하지 않는 국민의 고단한 삶을 풍자한 우화로 비록 짧은 내용이지만 그 속에 담긴 이야기는 우리가 처한 정치 행태의 근본적 물음과 함께 시스템에 대한 의미를 함축적으로 알려준다. 아이와 함께 읽고 이야기를 나누면 더 없이 좋은 정치 교재가 될 듯싶다 (xsd:string)
