Shimun XVI Yohannan (Qodchanis, ... –Qodchanis,1820) è stato unvescovo cristiano orientalesiro,patriarca dellaChiesa d'Oriente della linea di Shimun dal1780 al1820.
Poche sono le informazioni su questo patriarca orientale.[1] Secondo le tradizionali cronotassi dei patriarchi dellaChiesa d'Oriente, succedette nel1780 aShimun XV Mikhail Mukhtas e morì nel1820 circa[2] nella residenza patriarcale diQodchanis.[3] È storicamente documentato in alcunicolophon datati dal1784 al1815.[3]
Alla sua morte, la Chiesa d'Oriente fu affidata al pronipoteShimun XVII Abraham.[4] Secondo il principio dell'ereditarietà, la sede patriarcale era affidata alNatar kursya, successore designato del patriarca regnante, che era sempre un suo parente prossimo.[5][6]
Nel1804, con la morte diElia Isho'yahb, ultimo patriarca nestoriano della linea di Elia con sede aAlqosh, Shimun XVI restò l'unico patriarca dellaChiesa assira d'Oriente.[7]

One is led to speculate that for the 203 years in question, the identity of the patriarchs and the period of their patriarchal tenure was not known, except for the name of five of them.
