Nathan Juran, conosciuto anche comeNathan Hertz, pseudonimo diNaftuli Hertz Juran (Gura Humora,1º settembre1907 –Palos Verdes Estates,23 ottobre2002), è stato unoscenografo eregistaaustriaconaturalizzatostatunitense.
Naftuli Hertz Juran nacque aGura Humora nell'alloraImpero Austro-Ungarico (oggiRomania) da una famigliaebrea. Si trasferì negliStati Uniti al seguito della famiglia nel 1912, stabilendosi aMinneapolis inMinnesota. Si laureò in architettura all'Università del Minnesota e frequentò il prestigiosoMIT diCambridge nelMassachusetts, ottenendo una specializzazione. Con il settore edile fermo a causa dellaGrande depressione, Juran si trasferì aLos Angeles neglianni 30 in cerca di lavoro.
Entrò nell'industria cinematografica, quando venne assunto nel dipartimento artistico dellaRKO Radio Pictures. Nel 1936 venne poi ingaggiato dallaMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer, lavorando al filmGiulietta e Romeo. Passato successivamente alla20th Century Fox, Juran vinse nel 1942 ilPremio Oscar alla migliore scenografia per il filmCom'era verde la mia valle. Neglianni cinquanta diresse film comeAttack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958), in occasione del quale si firmò come "Nathan Hertz", eIl 7º viaggio di Sinbad (1958). Nei primianni sessanta soggiornò inEuropa, dove diresse diversi film di avventura ewestern. Nel 1999 ricevette il premio alla carriera dall'Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
Si è sposato con Catherine Juran, da cui ha avuto un figlio.
