Abstract

The genesis of the Middle World. Batara Guru descends from heaven and comes to the land of Luwuq. Wé Nyiliq Timoq rises from the underworld. They marry and Wé Nyiliq Timoq gives birth to Batara Lattuq who has to undergo manifold festive ceremonies such as sitting on a swing. The beginning of the realm Tompoq Tikkaq. La Urung Mpessi descends from heaven, I Pada Uleng rises from the underworld, they marry each other and they die on the same day. Their two earthly daughters, Wé Adiluwuq and Wé Opu Sengngeng are eventually expelled from the palace and from the realm.

Langdurig bruikleen van de collectie Boeginese en Makassaarse handschriften van het Nederlands Bijbelgenootschap (NBG) sinds 1905 / Permanent loan of the collections of Buginese and Makassarese manuscripts of the Netherlands Bible Society since 1905.
Het Leidse handschrift is het langste doorlopend fragment van La Galigo ter wereld / The Leiden Manuscript is the longest coherent fragment of La Galigo extant in the world.
Handschrift staat op UNESCO’s Memory of the World register sinds 2011.
