Transforming Spells weretransfigurationspells of unknownincantation; they were used to perform forms oftransformation.[1]
Nature and teaching[]
Transforming spells seemed to be related tochanging guinea fowl into guinea pigs, as these spells were the subject of an essay written for homework after a class on that spell.[1]
AsProfessorMcGonagall taught herfourth-yearstudents inTransfiguration class, Transforming Spells could and must be adapted in some manner in order to performCross-Species Switches. This was the subject of an essay they had to write for that night's homework.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- It is currently unknown whether this refers to a specific set oftransformationspells, or if it refers to anyspell that might transform something. If the latter is the case, suchspells as theAvifors Spell and theSnufflifors Spell might be considered Transforming Spells.
- InHogwarts Legacy, a series of transformations take the umbrella name of the "Transformation Spell", which covers everything from changingGobstones to butterflies, to more complex human transfigurations like humans into chickens, and so on. Since theHarry Potter universe shows that these transfigurations are always the result into different spells and not just one universal spell, it can be assumed that the developers merged them together for gameplay reasons.
