Professor Swoopstikes became thePotions Master atHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at an unknown point in the school's history. He was also anentomologist, with a vast knowledge ofmagical insects. Professor Swoopstikes was also a fan of theTutshill Tornados Quidditch team.[4]

A portrait of Professor Swoopstikes was hung in theTracery Hall atHogwarts Castle, depicting him among his vast insect collection, holding a magnifying glass in one hand and aBillywig in the other.

Etymology[]

  • To "swoop" is to "move rapidly downward through the air", perhaps an indication towardsentomology.[5]
  • A "stike" is a stanza, and therefore the plural form of stike, "stikes", refers to multiple stanzas.[6]

  1. J. K. Rowling stated at the Edinburgh Book Festival on 15 August 2004 (source) that all portraits atHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are of deceased individuals. Thus, this wizard must have died sometime in or before1991, given his portrait's appearance in theThe Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
