Biography[]
Silvanus was born to thepure-bloodSelwyn family.[2] He had an early life of privilege and grandeur, but born too late to inherit it. It was said that he would do anything to damage the good reputation of his distinguished family. Silvanus provided opportunities for Rookwood to meet with influential people.[4]
In the1890–1891 school year, he set up a base of operations inClagmar Castle. A bounty was put on his head by one of the locals,Hyacinth Olivier, with the hope that if he was taken out, the Ashwinders in the area would dwindle. This bounty was taken up by afifth-year student atHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, whoassassinated Selwyn and collected the bounty.[1]

Silvanus was quick-witted and fashionable who loved the finer things in life and had a flair for the dramatic.[3]

- Silvanus wore a green vest with a snake on the back. This may be an indication that he was inSlytherin house or may be just part of anAshwinder, serpent-based, clothing motif, as others in the gang also have snake motifs on their clothing.
