History[]
1990s[]
- "He didn’t argue or complain, but he wouldn’t let her throw away the shattered remnants of his Nimbus Two Thousand. He knew he was being stupid, knew that the Nimbus was beyond repair, but Harry couldn’t help it; he felt as though he’d lost one of his best friends."

Harry receiving hisNimbus 2000 broomstick
This broomstick was arranged for Harry byProfessorMinerva McGonagall after he was given a spot on theGryffindor Quidditch team, asSeeker.[3] He rode this broom in all schoolQuidditch matches until1993, when, during a match againstHufflepuff, he was attacked byDementors and fell off his broom. The broom crashed into theWhomping Willow and was broken beyond repair. His friends returned the remains to Harry in a bag, but he decided to keep them instead of throwing them away.[5]
Later,Sirius Black, Harry’sgodfather, gave him aFirebolt as a gift after finding out that his Nimbus 2000 broke.
2010s[]
During the2010–2011 school year, aMuggle-born Hogwarts student found a leftover splinter of this broomstick nearby the Whomping Willow. Wondering if they could make something out of the piece of wood, they brought it to their friendsLottie Turner,Robyn Thistlethwaite, andKevin Farrell in theTransfiguration Classroom to discuss what they could make. Robyn asserted that the student should use the piece of wood to make awand, but Kevin explained that making wands was extremely difficult and that the splinter looked like a broken piece of a broomstick. Kevin used the splinter'smahogany wood, grain, colour, and golden lettering to identify it as belonging to a Nimbus 2000. Robyn, excited about the prospect of owning a Nimbus 2000, convinced the student to try to use aMending Charm on the splinter, although the spell was ineffective.[1]
Robyn asked the student where they had found the splinter in the hopes of finding more to try to repair the broom, with the student explaining they had found it near the Whomping Willow. Realising that someone must have flown the broom into the Whomping Willow in the past, the four students went to talk with Professor McGonagall, who explained that the splinter was part of Harry Potter's Nimbus 2000 broomstick and what had happened to it, realising that the splinter was likely left behind when Harry's friends had gathered up the other pieces of his broom to give back to him. McGonagall allowed the Muggle-born student to keep the splinter, but they decided to give it to Robyn, as they thought it should be with someone who would appreciate it for what it was, much to her excitement.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- It's never explicitly stated who paid for this broom, however it's likely to have been McGonagall herself as she's the one who made arrangements for Harry to receive it and it's unlikely she'd have access to Harry's inheritance to use that to pay for the broom due to McGonagall not being his legal guardian.
- This was Harry's only broom that was not a gift fromhis godfather, ashis Firebolt and histoy broomstick were both given to him by Sirius.
